These are a few sites that discuss this issue. I can certainly say that I've found more info that is negative, but you can look up more info online. I have my own opinion ... Stay away from refined sugar and HFCS altogether .... But that is just an opinion.

Not to burst your bubble, but before you go go taking Sweetsurprise.com as gospel, note that it's put out there by the Corn Refiners Association. "The Corn Refiners Association (CRA) is the national trade association representing the corn refining (wet milling) industry of the United States." No special interests there, now!

Just buy natural peanut butter and allfruit spread instead of *jelly* and you're fine! I like the Polaner Allfruit or Kroger brand Just fruit spread for my kids. HTH!

I am avoiding HFCS as part of a general change to my life - I believe that the combination of all the processed junk that people eat is what is causing the obesity problems we see today. HFCS is just part of that. Why would I want to put stuff in me that has been so highly processed that it isn't even comparable to its original form? There are plenty of unprocessed (or very lightly processed) foods out there that are delicious and more nutritious...so to me, even if HFCS isn't "that bad"... it's not worth it!

There is natural peanut butter and jelly out there that have no HFCS...I think peanut butter that is 100% peanuts is so much yummier than the PB with added sugars/oils. I don't eat too much bread anymore, because I think there are healthier grains I could be eating, but there are some types (like Nature's Own) that have no HFCS, and of course you could always make your own if you have time!
    :drinker: what He said:tongue:

HFCS should be treated like any other sugar. I treat it like table sugar. I count it as table sugar. It is essentially table sugar, but from corn not cane.

    In moderation.

I beleive the common concirn that causes people to say the HFCS is evil and worse than just table sugar is the way it is processed in your body.

A variety of different cells and areas within the body are able to process most types of sugar. Basically all cells in the body use glucose as there primary fuel source.

However fructose can only be processed and metabolised by the liver.

High quantities of fructose in the diet (that almost only can be caused by processed products containing HFCS or other fructose derivatives) have been known to cause liver damage.

While eating it occasionally probably won't cause these incidents. that is one of the main reasons why people regard HFCS as a worse sugar source than sucrose or glucose and other forms of sugar (be it refined - cane or other sugars).

I try to avoid it but I don't think it's "the devil." I look for it in ingredients in things I buy and buy bread that doesn't have it (Orowheat, Nature's Valley).

As for PB and jelly, I get natural PB (just peanuts and salt, yum) and get my jam from my aunt, who cans it herself. Big time yum! When she doesn't have any for me, I get either sugar free jam or something that doesn't have HFCS or fructose in it.

I've cut it out of our diets (for the most part) for personal reasons and am glad that we don't consume it on a regular basis, only rarely and in moderation.
