Fat Clothes

This weekend I made it one of my chores to go through my 3 huge plastic tote's in our storage shed that holds all the clothes I shrank out of this year and have yet to get back into. They were a mess and I needed to organize them.

I know there are differing schools of thought on keeping your fat clothes; my personal one is I don't throw or give anything away unless I absolutely hate it. So I keep everything whether its a size 14 or a size 22.

Thus far this year I've lost 35lbs, have gone from a woman's size 22 jeans to a 14, a 2X size top down to a large ( or a medium depending on the cut  ) and I live in a place that actually has seasons so I have winter clothes, spring clothes and summer clothes. I have LOTS of clothes.

What I found while I went through my fat clothes - those lovely size 22 jeans -is that I had a complete feeling of loathing. I remember how much I hated those jeans. All of them. They never fit right. They sagged in the front, the waists sat too high up - you know what I'm talking about! I remember how I felt having to buy them, hating them even before they were mine, and knowing that no matter where I bought them or how much I spent they'd never fit right. How I hated that.

I don't want to forget those feelings. I want to always remember that feeling of loathing; of holding up one of those size 22's and remember what it felt like to wear them. I don't want to forget so I don't ever have to wear them again.

I always give my bigger clothes away. If I keep them, I feel that, in my mind, I'm making okay to gain the weight back, or at least assuming that it will happen eventually. IT WONT. And I'm not holding on to clothes that I never plan to fit in ever again. They're better with someone who can fit in them now and who maybe doesn't have as much as I do.

Im keeping a pair of my jeans from my time at my heaviest so I remember. Congrats for dropping all of that weight so far I've lost 24lbs and have almost dropped a dress size. My old clothes still fit but now my jeans need belts and are slack and two shirts I couldnt fasten now fasen which is great I've still got a long way to go though but this time i will do it. Thanks for sharing. And congrats on your awsome weightloss it makes me beleive I can get there too.
  • i always give most of my bigger clothes away but i keep my "favorite" shirt and pants from that weight to remind me (and also in case i gain all that weight back >_< i've been a yoyo when it comes to losing weight)

I just went through my closet and gave away all but the worst which yes (gasp) I through them away. I called it my going out business never again give away.....Everything must go....I only left one size bigger then I am now...I vow never to get above that again and hopefully not even that....I want to be 1-2 sizes smaller then now....God willing.
  • I think keeping one pair of jeans to remind you of how crappy you felt is just fine! It serves as good motivation and can keep you from yo-yoing. Stick with it sister! You are doing awesome!
