What Food Would You Serve? Adult Birthday Party

Our friends birthday is coming up. When it was her hubby's birthday, they served oysters in the back yard (shuck your own type of thing). Now her birthday is coming up and we need an idea for something easy to serve. Mostly people drink/snack, but the party starts at 6, so it needs to be semi-substantial. We don't want anything labor intensive. We thought about a seafood boil, but we've already made reservations to have seafood the night before the party (Valentine's Day). What would you serve that's essentially no work? Also, it's at their house.

Taco, Nacho, Potato bars are substantial, easy & cost effective. They require little to no work from the hosts during the party and it's easy to keep all the food warm to allow for munching throughout the night.

Frozen seafood is easy to bake in the oven. Already-prepared fruit displays are expensive, but worth the convenience in this case. Maybe a few hoagies with lean deli meats and light on the mayo and cheese.

If you have a Costco nearby their party trays and salads are great. You can get fruit, meats, cheeses all decoratively arranged. Or go with a theme like South of the Border, have a build your own taco bar with all the fixings and some heated up refried beans and spanish rice. Chicken cooked in a skillet with a little lime juice and cilantro makes incredible tacos.

It sounds like you might be going for something fancier. Anything I can think of will take some effort, be catered or obviously be frozen (like lasagna). There are easy appetizers like french bread with diced tomato, freshly grated parmesan and garlic butter broiled until the cheese melts. Marinated chicken skewers baked, or on the grill depending on what your weather allows.

lil smokies wrapped in bacon and topped with brown sugar then baked in the oven.... If any are leftover then there were no men at your party
