Thermodynamics Diet

Anyone else a fan of this diet? It worked well for me!

The gentleman above is either bulking or does not understand the thermodynamics diet. He is not in a caloric deficit

Doesn't explain why 1 unit was stored and 5 were eaten though ;-)

Good point! I could not find a picture of someone following the diet correctly. I decided to post a picture of someone who is applying the diet incorrectly as an example. If he is intentionally bulking I apologize

He ate 5, burned 4 and the other one was stored. Not sure what the importance is of the thread, though. Isn't this something we all already understand? Maybe I'm missing the point. Not uncommon for me!

He ate 5, burned 4 and the other one was stored. Self-explanatory. Not sure what the importance is of the thread, though. Isn't this something we all already understand?

You obviously understand. Unfortunately I think many MFP members do not. Many believe that the laws of thermodynamics do not apply to them (because they are incorrectly estimating energy in and/or energy out).

    So...is a calorie still a calorie?

Because I didn't log in (or log food) for a while now, and I'm concerned I missed breaking news.

edit cuz apparently I haven't typed for a while, either. :grumble:

The gentleman in the illustration should be lifting weights or the only thing he's going to bulk is his belly . . .

    Nice post as always, OP!

This thread needs a shirtless IIFYM promoter in it so that someone can throw rocks at him.

go cruise the threads..there are at least two going on debating calories in vs calories out and deficits….:)

No because heat doesn't weigh anything and neither does work. It's not the heat leaving the system that causes weight to change. It's the difference in molecules entering and leaving the system that cause weight gain or loss.

Following that diet (as the gentleman did) is how I got fat. I do not recommend it!

If by rocks, you mean panties, then yes. You will probably get a lot thrown at you.

I don't believe in thermodynamics. I think it is all witchcraft, hocus pocus, and you should all be burned at the stake or thrown into rivers with large rocks attached to you.

If you happen to survive you are surely a witch.

I also don't believe in thermodynamics. Especially for weight loss.

Again? Clean calories don't make you fat, carbs are bad, and does anyone know a non-meat source of protein? Those seem to be the ubiquitous topics that pop up like weeds every day.

A calorie is the amount of energy, (or heat), it takes to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius (1.8 degrees Fahrenheit). When you burn more calories (work) than you consume you will lose weight. When we are talking about "heat" and "work" we are discussing units of energy entering and used by the system.

don't forget sugar is the devil….

the main ones today seem tone "historical diet" "calories in vs calories out does not work for me" < special snowflake and some other random garbage

Cool. Now do one showing the Krebs Cycle, and formulas in equilibrium since all fat storage/consumption, protein synthesis, muscle catabolism etc. are all in flux at all times...

    j/k

    Good simple graphic.

Not quite. When you burn calories, you rearrange a bunch of atoms from a form that your body typically stores, to one that your body typically gets rid of. You lose weight when those atoms leave your body.

The amount of energy it takes to raise 1 gram of water by one degree does not weigh anything. It's the (CHO/lipid/protein) molecules holding that energy which contain the mass.

That is why I can drink one pint of water, which contains no calories, and gain one pound. And then I can pee one pint of urine which also contains no calories and lose one pound. And none of this requires me to be a wizard or violate any laws of thermodynamics.

CICO does work, but it is a metaphor and thermodynamics is not the proximal cause.
