Eating too much?

Serious responses only please.

I just realized I've been eating too much because elliptical machines calorie burn estimate is usually overestimated by 50%.

I'm eating back my exercise calories and I am aiming for 1200 cal a day sometimes I go over a bit. I've been at it for 12 days now.. almost 2 weeks..

When will I see progress and drop some weight? Am I eating too much? 5'6.5 and 165 lb.

How much weight do you have to drop until your pants start to become looser at the waist line?

Should I track my elliptical calories as half of what the machine says from now on? (I did that today) I'm looking into getting a HRM in the near future but for now I'm confused what to track.

Thanks.

A realistic goal is .5 lb. per week. Log everything you eat accurately & honestly. Find reliable database entries. (There's a lot of incorrect data in there.) Weigh your food. Log your exercise, and eat back your exercise calories. If you're still not losing, eat back half your exercise calories.

    This.

Also, do you mean you are eating ONLY 1200 calories, or that you are eating 1200 + exercise? Because the way you worded it seemed like you are only eating 1200. If that was the case, you need to eat 1200 + (at least half) exercise.

I eat 1200 calories + the exercise calories so it equals 1200 but apparently I've been eating more then I want to because the machine overestimated the amount of calories burned. I aim for 1200 eating back the calories burned. Does that make sense?

Much more. LOL! I was like.. wait... wuh.....??

To answer your questions, yes, eat about 50% of them back. A HRM will give you the best estimate, but they don't really fit everyone's budget. Weighing your food will be a big one. It's really surprising how much we miss the mark with serving sizes by eyeballing or using measuring cups. Once you start weighing food you'll see alot more precision and you should see your weight going down. You should see changes pretty soon after that.

As for pants size, it took me about 25 lbs to drop from a 16 to 14 US. I'm much shorter than you though, only 5'2. I'm on the cusp (within 5-10 lbs) of dropping into a 12 now at 45 lbs down.

I have an electronic food scale and a standard type of food scale. Is there a website I can go on for veggies and other stuff and just enter the weight to give the amount of calories for the food item?

MFP does that. When you add food to your food diary, type in the vegetable or whatever food, like "Raw broccoli" and look for entries without the * (preferably). Usually there's like a baseline 100g for the entry. So if you had say 154g of broccoli, you enter it as 1.54 servings. Click add and viola.

They usually say that every 10 pounds is a pant size. For me, 25 pounds has been three pant sizes. I've gone from a 16 to a 10.

Unless you're content and completely satisfied, you can eat more than 1200 calories and still lose weight. Just wanted to throw that out there!

My treadmill also overestimates my calorie burn, but I have noticed that MFP estimates are closer to what my HRM gives me. So until you get one, maybe go by what MFP says and eat back only a percentage of those calories.

I've lost 6 pounds and am anxious like you to know when I get to see a drop in size. I have noticed that my ring fits looser, so that's a plus! I think it's different for everyone on this question.
