Question for P90x People??

I am starting on week 4 of the program tomorrow, and am concerned about recovery week, since the workouts on the schedule don't provide as big of a calorie burn as those in weeks 1-3. I get that this is likely the point (part of muscle confusion), but I am worried I will gain or not lose at all this week. Should I trust the process of the program, or maybe add a second cardio routine each day? Thoughts, please :)

On one hand, I understand why it's necessary.......for the recovery stage to set up the next increase in difficulty.
On the other hand, I don't understand why I need a full week of it.......just feels like a wasted week.

I have felt that way about the Recovery Week in P90X as well as Insanity. I'd rather just take my one rest day per week, and then continue to burn.
  • The rest week is absolutely important, and taking 1 day off is good but your body needs time to fully rebuild before you dive into stage 2. Many people have gone thru these programs! Trust the set up.

Honestly, I think you are over thinking this. I actually lost more weight on recovery weeks than the other weeks. If you think you're burning fewer calories on Core Synergistics than you were on Back & Biceps you are gravely mistaken. I don't remember exactly how recovery week laid out as it has been a few years, but the workouts are fairly comparable. You're still getting Yoga and Kenpo, right? Those two burn a metric butt load of calories. The Core Synergistics will flat out gas you the first time you do it. All you're really doing is giving your joints a week off to recover. Just go with it. You'll be fine.

I did light cardio (walking, swimming) during my recovery weeks.

I had forgotten about the Kenpo this week...that does kick my butt, and I have yet to try Core Synergistics! My main concern was the 2 Stretch days & Yoga (which isn't as big of a calorie burner for me). I'm sure it will balance itself out. I'll just keep going with it and be diligent about my calories this week! Thanks

Stop. If you are actually DOING the yoga as opposed to sort of half doing / half watching, then 90 minutes of yoga will burn a ton of calories for anyone. Just because you're not sucking wind doesn't mean you're not burning calories. You're using your entire body in yoga. The burn is there. Trust me, the burn is there. Also, stretch days? No. I think I just went for an easy bike ride instead on those days. Seriously, take the week to actually recover. Don't look for ways to punish yourself. You're on week 4 of 13. The point is to get you all the way through it.
