Eating high fat foods and losing weight

Options
Last June I tracked my food really closely and lost weight at a regular rate. I got off track for a few months and gained some of it back and now I'm back on track. I'm really struggling this time with losing weight. Its as if I keep playing with the same 4 pounds.

I compared what I'm eating now (staying within my calories, fat, sodium, carbs etc) to what I was eating back in June/July when I was eating within my calories, eating higher fat, sodium and staying within my carbs.

It seems weird to me that I would lose more weight eating higher fat and sodium than I do eating within all the #'s that MFP has assigned to me. Has anyone else noticed this? Should I being eating a higher fat/sodium diet? Could the #'s that MFP gave me be too low in those categories?

Just to add my exercise is the same as it was before I walk 30-40 minutes/day and do 20-30 minutes of strength training a few times a week. I have to be careful with my knee as I get knee sprains really easily and I'm finally getting into a specialist to get braces that will hopefully help.

Any positive comments would be great, if you're going to be negative keep your comments to yourself. Thanks

I eat anywhere from 50-75% fat, then fill in the rest with protein and carbs and that is what works for me.

Well I see from your bio that you have high blood pressure, so no, I wouldn't encourage you to eat higher sodium.

However, higher fat tends to keep me fuller. You fat macro should be 1/3rd gram for every pound of body weight, and that's a minimum really. You can go over that as long as you are getting enough protein as well (0.8 to 1 gram for every pound of lean body weight).

I wouldn't fear fat (apart from sat fat). I think your own experiences demonstrate this. Out of interest, why did you change your diet if it was working?

I love how MFP helps me remember what worked and what didn't. I have found, through historical data, that I lose much better on higher protien and fats and moderate to low carbohydrates.
    Do whatever works for you!
    Edited to add:
I also have hypertension so I found whole foods instead of canned/boxed/processed also worked best for my overal health, helped with water retension, and lowered my sodium numbers.

If its the RIGHT kind of fats from, nuts seeds, meat if you eat it, eggs, avocados, coconut, etc. Then yeah! Don't be eating fried (anything in my opinion) foods, trans fat, partly hydrogenated foods, lots of premade meals, etc. While I don't believe in getting most my calories from fat, a little extra won't hurt you. The salt though, if like what someone else said you have issues with blood pressure then yeah I wouldn't!

Oh and you can do it! :) don't give up

Fats and proteins make you feel more full than carbs do.

Fats do not make you fat

Carbs do not make you fat.

Too much food makes you fat.

I find it a lot easier to stay within a reasonable calorie range if I get most of my calories from protein, fiber, and fat than I do when I eat mostly refined carbs. I miss them a lot, but I don't get half as hungry half as often and so can eat less.

Thanks everyone. Its nice to hear that others have had similar experiences that I do. I try to eat healthy non processed foods lots of protein, nuts, vegetables, fruit and minimal amount of refined or starchy carbs.

I didn't purposely change my way of eating but things got busy at home and work plus traveling etc I stopped paying attention, and when I started paying attention again I've noticed my weight isn't moving. I'm going to go back to how I was eating in June/July and see how I do.
