Fitbit Calorie Adjustment

I wanted to address a question I have concerning the Fitbit Calorie Adjustment that Fitbit is allowing me on a regular basis. I have a daily goal on MFP of 1,300 calories (I am 47 year old female and am fairly sedentary most of the day). For the past several weeks of wearing the Fitbit I am expending an average of 1,900 calories per day. The fitbit calorie adjustment is anywhere from 250-450 per day, depending on how much walking I do during the day. With the Fitbit giving me such a high calorie adjustment I am a little bit confused about how many calories I should actually be consuming for the day. Any thoughts would be helpful.

I'm definitely not an expert, but here are my two cents:

I think the general consensus is that Fitbit and other calorie-burning trackers estimate high, so you probably do not want to eat back all those calories.

What you may want to do is experiment; if Fitbit is right and you're burning more than MFP thinks, then you could experiment eating more for a few weeks and see if you still lose. If you do, Fitbit is right and you're still at a deficit (and giving your body more requirement nutrients!) If you don't, then MFP is probably more right and Fitbit is overestimating.... Ultimately, what you need to do is work out what works for you, right, not what is generally right?

    Good luck!

Hi. I'm 46 and have a Fitbit One. I clock roughly 8000 steps a day on work days and find my Fitbit and MFP are usually only about 50-100cals difference when I look back over a period.

I've maintained for about a year using my Fitbit data only so am pretty comfortable that it seems accurate for me (am kind of finding MFP muddies the water for me but I needed somehwre to log my food once Biggest Loser sub ended).

Fitbit support are very helpful if you want to ask them for advice.
