New exercise program, now sleeping too long

Last week I started New Rules for Women lifting program and I am only on work out number five, Stage 1. The workouts are going well, I have upped my calories, my protein is good. I feel good. My problem is that I am now sleeping 10+ hours per night. I went to bed early last night to adjust to my new sleep pattern and I slept deeply for over 11 hours! Normally, I have an internal clock that wakes me up after 7-8 hours of sleep giving me plenty of time in the morning to prepare for the day. Is this new program too much for my old body? I don't feel like it is, I am barely sore and I can complete it with no problem. My only concern is the amount of time I am now sleeping. Will my body adjust after time or should I find something less taxing? Thoughts or advice?

Sleep and adequate nutrition are the keys to running a progressive routine successfully.
Having too much sleep isn't the problem. If you were, for instance, to slip into "overtraining" you'd expect the opposite: broken sleep. Sounds like you're coping just fine. Keep it up!0 -
I found the same thing I am doing p90x doubles the first month you only workout an hour and at first I was so tired I was napping and sleeping more at night then after about three weeks my body adjusted and I had more energy during the day. Then I started the two hour workouts and again my body needed more sleep. it is adjusting again though and have found I am not quite so tired everyday!!! Just stick with it and your body will adjust. Hope this helps!!!0

Thank you! Yes, both replies are very helpful. I will need to go to bed even earlier to get in adequate sleep and then wait for my body to catch up. The time I am spending sleeping is really eating into my day so I hope this passes soon.0

Well done, think in the first week it's probably to be expected, I would maybe start to question it if 4/5 weeks in I hadn't adjusted, but if you're still feeling good and just sleeping more then I wouldn't be overly worried about it.
I've started my marathin training so have increased my mileage and what I'm doing at weights and I'm knackered when I get in in the evening, hoping I'll get used to the increased mileage, but given that the mileage increases every week for the next 10 weeks I'm not hopeful, so I'll be sleeping as much as I can:)0
