Can you relearn how to eat?

Calories in vs. calories out. No brainer right? Yet how do you keep at your deficit day in and day out. You could go low carb, low fat, low sugar, over all portion reduction. Why do all of them work? Why do they all not work? Every single plan caters to a different pyschological type.
some of us need faster results to keep on plan. Higher protein will help you retain muscle but too much protein will be used as glucose.
Look at it this way. We who are overweight have a surplus of calories waiting to be used. That is what we saved them for in the first place. Give yourself a famine for a while, I.e. lower calories recommended by MFP and you lose weight.
Just think, you can eat a cookie, sugar, when your excess calories are used up.
What you need to eat, is probably way less than you want to eat. People always recommend measuring and weighing your food for this reason. I am continuously shocked at how small my portions are supposed to be. Not half of what I want, actually 1/4 of what I would usually serve myself. What is on my plate is laughably little to me.
I tried it all to lose weight, got caught up in Eating more to weigh less, or high protein, fat diets ie keto. I gained weight while on a diet. Every time. because I was eating too many calories, and I cheated on high cal food once in a while. For 3 years straight.
Now I am finally losing at MFP`s recommended level of 1479 cal per day. That`s to lose 2 lbs a week. at 175cm female and 86kg. This is under my BMR. But not under the BMR at my goal weight. Goal weight 66 kg.
All these conflicting theories work for someone, but save yourself the trouble. Follow MFP recommendations and limit sugar or carbs since they are the first to be used as energy. Your fat is saved energy, you have plenty of energy already.
You will probably be better off just halving your portion size of meat and carb of choice at every meal and keeping your veg the same. And just think you can eat that yummy treat when you don`t have any extra to use up first. You already ate it, and you will be able to eat one again.
Keep up your resolve with that mantra. Changing yourself psychologically without any help is extremely hard work. You are doing a good job. It sure isn`t easy. It hasn`t been easy for me. But we can do it.
