I just read about it on the news - so sorry you guys are going through this!! I can't imagine what it would be like to be stuck on the freeway for that long or stuck at school/make shift shelters. This has been one crazy winter so far. Thoughts and prayers are with all of you down there!

agreed! I've been watching it on the weather channel since this morning. I am so sorry that you all have to go through all of this. Take care & my thoughts go out to everyone still stuck

I've been following the weather reports on the news about all of this going on down south. I know from experience they are not at all prepared for this kind of weather. When I was in college in Ga. they had a threat of snow and everything shut down. Once they had flurries my friends were calling me telling me to cover my car with a blanket to keep it from freezing over night. I grew up in PA so to me this is all ridiculous. But then I'm used to it. I remember when we had those flurries my boss and I were the only 2 to show up for work that day and most of the patients cancelled. The snow never accumulated and in fact melted as soon as it touched anything. BUT this current situation is way worse. You're now dealing with iced up roads and have nothing to clear it. Up north on the other hand this is nothing for us. We have snow plow and salt truck convoys as soon as the first snow flake falls.

Lets hope your area clears up soon and all of the kids can get home and those who are stranded will get rescued soon.

FYI we keep a blanket in the car and a bag of sand in the trunk when the winter weather gets bad just in case. Keep your gas tank full, Keep a box of snacks in your car from now on and carry bottled water in your purse. Our local TV stations warn everyone every winter about these things. You need to be prepared for anything and now you see why.

I live 30 minutes from Raleigh, NC and ATL did what Raleigh did probably 10 years ago. Everyone freaked out about the storm and sent employees and students home at the same time. People were then stuck on the roads for hours upon hours. Luckily this time around our school systems canceled school the day the storm was coming to prevent this sort of thing from happening. Hopefully ATL learns as well.
