Newbie in Manchester - HELP!

Hi all, looking for some suggestions please.

I've just moved to Manchester and don't know anyone here. I'm looking for any suggestions that people have to make new friends? Facebook groups, forums, places/things to do in Manchester (that don't involve walking into a bar on your own etc).

I'm 24, I know these things take time but I've spent the few weeks just working and going to the gym, I need to get out and meet some new people! Hope you can help.
