Weight loss stall when adding exercise

I am not eating most of the calories that mfp adds for exercise yet my weight loss stalled as soon as I added exercise. Ok, it has only been 3 days but should I be concerned? I have hashimotos and my diet is perfect. I wouldn't be concerned if I was showing improvement in measurement, but that is the same too. I do feel better, I just can't prove it with a measurable device, clear as mud?

Since you're new to exercise you are most likely retaining water for muscle repair. It'll go away. just give it time.

    This is why -- http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/200544-why-do-you-sometimes-gain-weight-when-starting-a-new-exercis

Which, by the way, is why using only the scale to measure progress is less than helpful. Measuring tape and pictures are good things to add.

It's only been three days since you started to exercise? Give it some time.

Please don't take this the wrong way, what were you expecting to happen in three days?

Without seeing your food I'm going to say the answer is in your question.

You're not eating back most of your exercise calories. You see...when you created your profile you told MFP how many pounds you wanted to lose per week so MFP created a calorie deficit for you. Most likely this is around 1200 or so calories. When you exercise you expend energy (burn calories) and you drop those 1200 calories to say 900 if you burned 300. This is called Net calories (1200 eaten minus 300 burned with exercise = 900 net calories). Your body requires more calories (fuel) to function so if you give it less it will hold on to some of them and store them as fat for later. It can take 48-72 hrs for the "MODE" to kick in but I'm guessing you're not eating enough.
this is just my guess. If you are lifting weight and eating plenty then my next guess is in the article that Chalene Johnson published (she's Hot), that the above poster linked for you to read.

Either way...good luck and keep lifting heavy things.

Nothing, really. I was just steadily losing a tiny bit every 1-2 days (not a huge loss).. I have a friend who swears that adding exercise will ruin my efforts so I was hesitant and sort of panicked that maybe she is right? I want to exercise though :)

A stronger organism lives longer so adding exercise makes perfect sense.
You are experiencing water weight gain.

Keep an eye on your electrolytes and make sure you hit that potassium and sodium number.
Make sure you are eating the proper amount of food to fuel your exercise.
And for the love of god please lift weights or do some resistance training.

I have Hashimoto's, too (autoimmune thyroid disease), and I lost really, really slowly (20 lb. in one year). So don't panic after three days.

MFP has a "Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism" group: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/770-hypothyroidism-and-hyperthyroidism

You lose weight by eating at a deficit. Log everything you eat accurately & honestly. Find reliable database entries. (There's a lot of incorrect data in there.) Weigh your food. Log your exercise, and eat back your exercise calories for two weeks. If you're still not losing, eat back half your exercise calories.

It's only been 3 days. Patience is a virtue if you want to stick with this for the long haul.

Also, never mind what your friend said about exercise ruining your efforts. Exercise is fantastic for overall health, body composition, mood, and confidence.

 Well don't take exercise advice from your friend in the future. I would love to hear your friends explanation on that one because the opposite is true...

If your goal is weight loss, cardio exercise will help create a calorie deficit, and weight training will help maintain muscle while in a deficit, which in turn helps with fat loss because the more muscle you have the more calories your body needs for energy.
