Sedentary in the city?

Hi There,

I am new here and am working toward losing a few extra, okay 20 extra, pounds I've gained in my post-college years - but have a basic question about activity level. Yes, I sit at work most of the day, but I live in a major city without a car. This means I walk to and from work (a little over a mile each way) every day, and any errands; laundry, groceries, shopping in general, are done on foot so I'm constantly walking and carrying parcels in my off time. Does this still make me sedentary?

Of course, I know to truly lose weight and be healthy I need to get in regular exercise, and am working toward building more of it into my routine, but I wanted to know if anyone knew how to truly tell if you're sedentary at the start.

Thanks!
