How many servings...

of veggies and fruits do you eat??? I was reading the biggest loser book and they recommend a minimum of 4 servings a day. But they recommend to eat more veggies than fruits because of their sugar content. According to them a serving is one cup or a medium size fruit. How do you make sure you are eating enough? I have no problem measuring up the fruits because I usually eat an entire piece and then enter it in my log. The veggies are the issue. When I make a salad I cut up everything and try to measure it but it is such a hassle...and to enter it FORGET IT, it takes forever. And by the time I put everything together it is a HUGE salad!!! What do you do in that case? Thanks!!!

It really differs from day to day. In my classes, I have been taught to advise clients that it is not about how many servings you eat in a single day, but an average of around 3 days that really matters.
Personally, I know I have days when I will eat more than 4 servings and I also have days when I will eat less than 4 servings. If you know you are eating an average of about 4 servings a day, you are good to go.
As far as measuring goes, I just guestimate. The nice thing about veggies (especially salads) is that they are really low in calories, so if you under or overestimate a little bit it really doesn't matter.0 -
if it's a salad, I normally just estimate.. I measure the lettuce to 2 cups and then add other veggies in estimated amounts (ex- 2 tbls red pepper, 1/4 cup chopped tomato, 1 tbls chopped onion etc).0

I usually have a cup and a half of fruit in the morning and a fruit for a snack
veggies with lunch and dinner. I normally have about 2 cups with lunch and 3 with dinner0 -
I pretty much eat to fill macros...usually a banana and/or an apple a day and I eat a salad for two of my meals. I don't bother to measure the lettuce lol...I usually put cukes, peppers, and tomatoes on it. I don't bother to add fibrous veggies as fiber is indigestible so they offer negligible amounts of calories.0

I try to do a fruit for breakfast and a fruit for a snack. Then always have veggies with lunch and dinner. Being raised the way I was raised it just isnt dinner unless there is a meat/poultry , carb (ww pasta, brown rice, ww rolls SOMETHING) and veggies , always veggies!0

I eat lots of fruits and veggies. For the salad - I buy the packaged lettuce and estimate how much of the entire container I'm eating. For the 5oz container, I eat nearly the entire package in one sitting - so I enter it as say .9 servings of 5oz package. When I use non-cut up salad - I guestimate - I would think about 2-4 cups for me, so I put 3 cups.
For other veggies, I usually know how much is in the frozen package and what that looks like, from there I guess what I'm eating fresh. Yesterday I had an entire 16oz package of green beans and about a quart of strawberries.0
