I just started dieting and exercising to loose that dreaded middle age stomache. I exercise for an hour at the gym at work. I generally eat a light lunch and then work out. Is there a preferrence before or after.???

The only preference that matters is yours... what works for you? If you feel good doing what you're doing, I say stick with it :)

    ^^^^^ This

I prefer to exercise on an empty stomach (running, weights or rowing) but I can bike (moderate intensity) shortly after a meal. If it's an interval workout ride I'll wait a couple of hours after eating.

    Personal preference.

It really depends on the individual, I think. My husband can't work out without having something to eat beforehand - I'm the exact opposite (my stomach needs to be empty or I feel very, VERY sick afterward). I find that if I eat before I work out, I also feel sluggish and not as motivated to push myself more than the minimum, so I wait.

I say go with whatever works for you. :)

definitely an individual thing - i can't eat before a workout. i have a light snack an hour or two before my workout. this is especially true when i'm going for a run. i definitely cannot eat before a run - my stomach turns inside out if i do.
