Focusing on improving fitness and losing weight

I have only been using MFP for two weeks and the difference it has made to my life is indescribable.
At Christmas my weight hit 80kgs and whilst this is not exactly obese I did not feel great. By the way I am 54 years old and have always been a keen exerciser but my knowledge of nutrition was not what it should be, or to be honest, not as good as I thought it was.
After Christmas this what I decided to do:
1. On January 1 I decided to join DRY JANUARY. Yep this means absolutely no alcohol. I am writing this on January 30 and I can honestly say doing without alcohol has been a doddle. I am not a big drinker but I felt I was drinking too much.
2. Increase my gym work slightly. I admit i like exercise so I go to the gym Mon to Fri at 7am with my wife. On two evenings my wife goes to classes so I decided to do an extra short workout and use the sauna on those days.
3. Pilates. I am a 54 year old man, so the thought of doing Pilates did not exactly spring into my mind. I can honestly say it is one of the best things I have ever done. I now attend 4/5 Pilates sessions a week. My core strength has already improved, my back pain is subsiding, and my strength to exercise to at a new level. TRY IT!
4. Myfitnesspal. What can I say....WOW. MFP has not only given me the control I needed over calorie intake but also focused my attention on nutrition. I am now completely obsessed. I have got a set of digital scales and I weight all the food I am about to cook and or eat. I enter all my exercise information so I can see the net calories.
At the time of writing my weight is 76.4kgs which means I have lost 3.6kgs or almost 8 LBS during January.
I really hope to meet new friends here so please feel free to add me.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Hello Paul and welcome to MFP, it is such a good site, and very encouraging. I have been using it for a while, and I like that I will be supported through good days and bad.
