Yes -- I said too low. My total was 110 and HDL at 33. These were both flagged as tool low. LDL was good at 93.
So how can I raise my HDL and total back to normal ranges. Doc wants no loess than 125 total and 50 for HDL.
Everyone says exercise -- but I am already doing that 5x/week. Any other ideas?

Im no doctor here, but my Total Cholesterol was 103, and my Dr was estatic.........
what gives with yours? I thought that anything under 175 Total Cholesterol is awesome?
Maybe try a second opinion.............Also, are drs really putting credence in the LDL and HDLS ?
Good luck, may do some Internet searches , or go to MAYO.COM......0 -
Bizarre. Never heard of it being too low. Has to do with your activity level am guessing?
I know red meat and seafood will jack it up. Don't know what to tell you if you're herbivorous, though.0 -
Here is one website I found on how to increase your HDL:

My dr and when I was watching dr oz they say total cholesterol means nothing it is all in how your body carries it (HDL,LDL and try.). Good luck to you!0 -

I'm a little confused by your comment regarding the credence of LDL and HDL - it's a fact that these two components do different things in your body. LDL helps deliver cholesterol to your cells, but can build up over time, causing health problems. HDL, on the other hand, works to pick up excess cholesterol in your system and takes it back to the liver where it is broken down. This is why both levels have to be examined. LDL is the "bad" cholesterol and HDL is the "good" cholesterol. Even if LDL levels are good, having HDL levels that are too low can cause problems.
To the OP - try increasing the healthy fats that you eat (olive oil, nuts, fish, etc.). See this page: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hdl-cholesterol/CL00030/NSECTIONGROUP=20 -

Actually, eating more red meats will likely raise the LDL levels, not HDL, which would not be what the OP wants to happen.0
