Newbie, not sure how to start?

Hello, I am new. I joined this site because I want my confidence back. In Dec. 2011 I was 100lbs. In Dec. 2012 I was 150lbs. I gained 50lbs in one year. I had gone through a traumatic experience and was stress eating. Or comfort food eating, whatever you want to call it, I don’t know. Combined with going from a semi-active lifestyle to a sedentary lifestyle (went from being a waitress, living in a three story house doing farm chores to being unemployed, living in a tiny apartment and sleeping most of the day away) it just happened SO fast. I’d have to buy new clothes every few months to keep up with the gain. At first when I started gaining I was excited, it was giving me more womanly curves and I didn’t mind going from a size 0 to a size 5 one bit. Anyway, when I stopped stress/comfort eating I went down to 145lbs, but with a height of 5’1 I’m still slightly overweight according to the BMI. There’s really only two things I’m unhappy with, and that’s my face has gotten a smidge pudgy and my stomach. Almost all of the weight was gained in my belly. I have a 32 a cup chest and it didn’t improve at all with the weight gain, so the main reason I’m so unhappy with my stomach is that I look pregnant. I can’t wear any of the sexy/pretty clothes styles I used to or people think I’m a couple months along! Maybe if my breasts were bigger it would balance out, but unfortunately I have tiny boobs. So in conclusion, I want to get rid of my stomach. I wasn’t sure if I needed to diet, just start working out, or both. I’m REALLY bad at sticking to a diet, especially since my husband refuses to diet with me and I still have to cook him dinner. Saying no to a big steaming bowl of spaghetti is HARD. Anyway, I was pleased with my body/weight when I was about a size 5/6, at 125/130lbs so I think I’d like to lose about 20 to 15 lbs. I’m REALLY not sure what the best way to do this is. I know it’s going to take longer for me because I don’t have as much to lose. But when I enter my goals on MFP it tells me to eat only 1200 calories, my fit friend just tells me not to diet, just to workout by running to lose a couple pounds and then tone my stomach. I know I have really bad eating styles/habits as I only have about 2000 or less calories a day, but I basically only eat one meal a day, (dinner) and then snack throughout the evening. Do I just need to eat 3 meals a day + exercise? Do I need to calorie count and stay under 1200? If I do that, what happens when I reach my goal weight, will I have to eat only 1200 calories a day everyday for the rest of my life? I’m a total newbie, and I just don’t know where to start. Halp?

It sounds like you're a little overwhelmed right now. I know the feeling.
I think the Sexypants thread is one of the best beginners guides we have here. It's a lot of reading (and all of the linked threads are worth a read, too) but it's going to get you on the right track. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants0
