I know your supposed to drink 8-10 glasses of water a day, but most days after just 4-6 I end up having to pee every 20 min and my tummy gets uncomfortably bloated. Am I drinking too much for my body??

The same happens to me. I usually don't drink to the point of discomfort, whether or not I have hit the 8. I also tend to drink a ton more when I work out so that helps get to the goal.

Yesterday was the first day I had reached the 8 glasses a day. . .and I've been here about 2 1/2 months now. I felt bloated and was in the bathroom every time I turned around it seemed.
I'm usually around 6 glasses a day and that's probably where I'll stay. It's more water than I used to drink and I feel better at that level. If I get more on some days. . . WooHoo!!!
I say do what is comfortable. . . just make sure you stay hydrated through the day.
  • I've heard you're supposed to half your weight, and drink that many ounces. So if you only weigh 125 pounds, you should be drinking about 63 ounces which is just under 8 glasses. Something that will help if you're having trouble with feeling bloated is to do more cardio or get a walk in during the day. Even parking a mile from your office and walking that distance in the morning and afternoon can help your body circulate it faster. Also, when it's hot you should definitely up your water to 9 or 10 glasses and the same if you do heavy cardio or something that makes you sweat. If you're doing weights or steady pace walking, you can get away with less water because you aren't loosing much more in sweat.
Keep this in mind - when you're loosing weight, your body can only release fat if you have enough water replenishing those areas of your body. If you don't get enough water, your body will hold on to what it has (the fat you're trying to lose!) and it will hinder your goals. Plus, peeing every 20 minutes may be inconvenient but think about all the bad stuff your body gets to flush out and you get more steps on your pedometer walking to the bathroom!

I drink like a fish. I seem to lose more and generally feel better when I get my quota in.

Everyone's different! My co-worker in my office only drinks 2-4 glasses a day, whereas I drink more like 12-16 glasses. As long as you're getting plenty of moisture in your diet, you should be fine. :)
