Should I try this?

There is a gym in my area that is offering a weight loss challenge to lose 20 lbs in 6 weeks.

The only requirement is that you attend 3 of their classes a week, and oh yeah you have to pay $300 up front and it is only returned if you lose at least 20 lbs. You also have to be willing to allow them to use your pics for advertising.

I am 5'6" and have around 100 lbs to lose, am I crazy for even considering this?

i vote for nope. i would also be very suspicious of a place that's pushing such a big weight loss in so little time. i also vote no because when they say use your pics for advertising it's for ANY advertising you have ZERO control over where they use your pic or how.
  • I actually think that is an awesome idea that you're considering. Just think, you'll work twice as hard, because you won't want to lose out on your money! xx

No. Weight loss is not linear and anyone losing that quickly is setting themselves up for failure.

it depends. What do you get for the $300? Last year I did a 10 week fit challenge for $300.00 but I got 5 30 min training sessions, nutrition counseling and weigh in every 10 days.

I didnt win the challenge but it sparked me to lose nearly 100lbs and 40 plus inches off my body, best money I ever spent. In your case there has to be some value in return your getting for the money

I also think it's suspicious. Especially with $300 up front. That's pretty whack. (Do people still say that nowadays? lol)

Anyway, if you want to join a gym, that's fine. Go to your local gyms and ask for a tour, etc. Look around and then decide which is right for you. No need for $300 upfront hooey or being locked into some questionable 3x a week class.

    Good luck!

The best thing I ever did was stop putting a "sell by" date on losing weight. I vote no.

Let's see an average of 3.33 pounds every week........

    3.33 x 3500 .....a 11,667 weekly calorie deficit or 1,667 calorie daily deficit

I don't know your age (or current weight) .....but for a 25 year old (5'6") woman who weighs 250 ....the BMR is 1929

So you would need to NET 262 calories every day.................UM No......not a good idea.

I bet they are counting on a lot of people failing so they can keep the money! So they get $300 and a bunch of photos to use for advertising. Lot of win for them - what's in it for you?

Sounds like a money grab to me use that $300 to buy a membership and you can go to the gym all you want and usually attend all their classes too? Our gym includes the classes, full gym, pool, suana access, orientation session with a trainer for $600/yr
