Serving sizes that make no sense.

Why is a serving of honey nut cherrios 1/4 cup less than a serving of regular cherrios!?
It makes me mad when serving sizes make no sense.

Cos people who don't look closely will buy them thinking that they aren't that many cals! "serving size" is all marketing bull.

I bought a blackcurrant drink the other day in a small container that couldn't be resealed. How many servings? 1.3. Like I was just going to chuck out the last few mouthfuls and only have a 'serving'. I only look at per 110g/ml these days.

I looked up the nutritional info on the web. By weight, the serving size is the same - 28 g. The Honey Nut variety weighs more than the regular variety, thus the smaller measuring cup serving size. It's interesting that the smaller volume of Honey Nut Cheerios actually has 10 more calories than the regular variety.

Serving sizes vs. packaged sizes don't make much sense at all! I had thought that it was to make the nutritional values on the front (in the UK we have 'cheese wheels' colour-coded so you can, theoretically, tell at a glance how 'good' it is for you.) We had wild rocket last night as a side. The pack was 70g. The recommended serving size? 40g. Calorie difference was minimal, but to get a full two portions, you'd need two bags (and have some left over.) Thank the gods I did A-level maths!

Then you have a particular brand of canned fruit, which is 2.3 servings per can. And don't get me on the individual size or 2-person size ready meals you can buy (if you want to...), which are actually 1.4 or 2.6 portions per pack.

I had the same thought today: I bought pop tarts for my students and one serving of pop tarts is ONE pop part, even though they're packaged as two. The other one that drives me nuts is those microwave soup cups. A serving is one cup of soup when the thing holds two cups. Like what, I'm gonna eat half a soup cup and save the rest for later?.

Those are some good ones. Especially the soup cups.

I guess since it is done by weight that makes more sense for the cherrios.

I don't have any problem, so weighing, while a good choice for portions, doesn't make the wierd portion sizes make any more sense to me.

Like why is a 12 oz can of soda a serving, but a 20 oz bottle 2.5 servings?
