Going off-track has really affected measurements?

Hi, can anyone help? I went off-track on my diet and exercise over Christmas/new year/university holidays and ended up gaining about 6lbs. I've been making a concerted effort to be strict with myself over the past few weeks and am now only 2lbs heavier than before Christmas but my measurements have shocked me!
Even though I'm not far off my previous weight, my hip/thigh measurements are nearly an inch bigger than they were before and my waist is 0.5 inches bigger! Can anyone suggest a reason why? Feeling quite disheartened
