Paleo Anyone?

Just interested if any of you are trying the Paleo approach to dieting. I have inflammatory diseases and it is supposed to help, but I feel kind of like I am grasping in the dark. One book I read allows seeds and nuts and another one says "No way". Are some just stricter than others? I'm going to post this under General Diet also. Friend me if you are on or have tried Paleo. Thanks! :flowerforyou:

I've been following primal blueprint for 6 days. I have an IBD. My specialist had told me I was ready to cut down meds, so I did, and bleeding increased within a week and was still worsening even after going back up to daily. So, I started primal and within 4-5 days I've already decreased bleeding. Still not completely asymptomatic but definitely better than the beginning of the week even. Mind you- diet or meds, who knows? I feel great, lost 2.8lbs in 5 days (including a few "cheats" last night) and averaging at least 1500-1600 cals per day (MFP seems to think I should strive for 1200 for weight loss which i think is way too low).0

Look at Whole30 as a good crash course in Paleo. it is very strict, but if you have inflammatory diseases it may be best to start strict. After you finish the 30 day period, you can try reintroducing dairy and legumes to see how your body handles them.
Everyone on the internet has some opinion on what paleo is and what paleo should be. It's critics think because it's called paleo that we all literally stalk and kill our prey and eat it raw. Some of it's supporters think it should be rigid and not allow for any individual flexibility.
Take the time to experiment, research individual ingredients, and find a reasonable 'paleo diet' that works for you0 -
I consider myself Paleo - and have beenplaying with it for some time, but more and more compliant the last couple of months. I look at it as a lifestyle (food, sleep, movement, stress management all nearly equally important), not a weight loss "diet. I'm in it for health. "Paleo Coach" by Jason Seib really got my head straight in this regard. He and Sarah Fragoso do a great podcast called "Everyday Paleo" which I cannot recommend enough. Subscribe and start listening at current episdoe, bu also listen to episode 1.
Nuts and seeds are often cited as admissible in Paleo - but with caution. The Omega6 levels are imflammatory. One giuideline I've seen is to only eat those that you shell - not because shelling nuts is magical but because it will limit the amount you eat.
Looking at your profile, I agree with other poster about considering doing a Whole30 or someother very strict period to get things reset, your gut healed and inflammation settled down. One other book to look at is 'Practical Paleo' by Diane Sanfilippo. Has great info with specified diet plans for certain condiions. The Auto Immune protocol may help you.
Bottom line - there is no one size fits all protocol for Paleo - its a framework but each of us can tolerate different foods, or have different health conditions that may make us benefit from eating - or avoiding certain foods. It takes going strict an then experimenting with adding foods back to determine what's best for you...and your health.0 -
I'm in my first paleo week. I'm finding my feet and discovering which foods fuel me best and logging all my food and nutritionally evaluating each day. I have been having nuts but I think more often than what I should, so I'm trying to find a balance

Hi!
I'm trying a primal style of eating, but not necessarily straight Paleo. Seems to be an easier (and kind of fun) transition! Let me know if you'd like to chat more about this!0 -
My X husband went Paleo and dropped over 100 lbs in a year, (he was 350)
I've decided to switch myself and am down 10 lbs in 3 weeks, but I think that is mostly from cutting the starchy carbs etc
It is a great way of life but takes I find determination. It is so easy to fall back into an easier way of life. But Paleo I find is so much healthier
also www.marksdailyapple.com has some great info on Paleoism0 -
I ve been doing Paleo since Dec 1st and I promise that it will get easier. Sugary snacks and breads doing tempt me like they used to. I would really suggest investing in some cook books to help with variety. I just picked up a book called Against All Grains, and the recipes are fantastic!0

I've been "Paleo" for about six months now, and it's wonderful. Granted, I don't follow it perfectly (no one can, I feel), but my skin is glowing, workouts are easier, and I'm far less bloated. Not to mention, weight loss!! It's fluctuated a bit with holidays and seasons, but I'm smaller than where I started.
You should really read this: http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2010/10/04/the-beginners-guide-to-the-paleo-diet/
And might I add that if you like dairy or something else "not Paleo" -- it's all up to you! It's your diet to do what you like with. Personally, I LOVE LOVE LOVE cheese, and will never part with it. I think dairy is good for digestion for some people, and I've learned that Greek yogurt really keeps me stable.0
