Feel like a cow

Nothing like shopping for a prom dress at a designer boutique to make you feel like a bloated pig. I keep trying to tell myself they're designer, they run small, but that still doesn't erase the number from my mind.

Find something that fits great and just revel in how amazing you look. I would rather look stunning in a size 10 than look uncomfortable or unflattering in a size 6. Good luck finding your perfect dress!

Dress designers are sadistic a-holes. I was in a wedding a couple years ago and my bridesmaid dress was like 8 sizes bigger than the size I actually wear. Like WTH?! It was evil. I'd never worn anything in that size before. Forget the size - you know it's not a true size anyway and I'm sure you'll find something you look fantastic in!

Nobody sees that number but you. It's a total mind game but there's nothing to feel bad about.

I have to agree - when we took my niece shopping for her wedding dress we had to start 2 sizes bigger than she was - the sad thing is she worked hard to lose some weight before the wedding - wtf is wrong with those people!

Sizing varies greatly. Focus on how you look, no one sees the tag of your dress.

I think a lot of the time they go by pattern sizing and not regular sizing. That's why the numbers are so crazy big.
  • Dress sizes are moronic and not be taken seriously - I have dresses that are labelled as being 6 sizes apart but are EXACTLY the same size as each other! So you could be trying on something labelled as an 8 but it's the same size as a 2 - it's insanity! Don't let it mess with you!

Being from the UK your dress sizes confuse me lol
To me you are all stick thin =)

Its the same here. In one shop I can be a size 14, in another a 16 and in another an 18.
its disgusting really and while I understand this and don't worry too much. I feel sorry for young girls who are influential and prone to warped ideas on what is normal.

Please do not let dress sizes get you down. The off the peg chain store sizes are not the same as they were 50 years ago, and fashion houses are often worse. We the general population are different too. Be pleased with yourself that you are fit and healthy. There is a conspiracy in the world of food manufacture and fashion which says women and increasingly men are not what they should be, the insurance industry is also in on the act. More people under the prescribed weight level get health issues rather than those a little above.

Rejoice in who you are. Be healthy. Enjoy life. Question Conformity, live your differences with pride.

this exactly, also, i used to work in a clothing factory that manufactured m&s knitwear, and it was notorious for sowing the wrong size labels in things, if it was caught before leaving the factory (which wasn't often) the jumpers were either shrunk or stretched on steam beds to fit the label, so if ever you've bought something from there and its stretched or shrunk the first time you washed it thats the reason why

op please don't let the size of your dress ruin your prom, just find a dress that fits and you look stunning in, if it's not the size you want, cut the label out, i can assure you your not going to look like a bloated pig :flowerforyou:
  • Don't look at the number. It's just something to categorize everything. How do you feel when you look in your dress is what's all about!!
