What is your opinion of Dr Oz?

So, my first grumble about Dr Oz was his raspberry ketones pitch.

THEN he touted the green tea or coffee

NOW it is his two week rapid weight loss

BUT, THE STRAW was when I read an article about him donning a fat suit. He was talking about how he felt in a fat suit, and I wanted to throw my tablet because it seemed so disingenuous. All I could think was "This is another gimmick for him to funnel bad advice to the masses."

Why doesn't he just tell people to eat reasonable portions, move more, and incorporate more fruits and vegetables? To get some kind of therapy to sort out your relationship with food? Why is a doctor touting quick-fixes? How is this healthy? Am I being unreasonably annoyed?

The production company is faced with the task of producing numerous shows. If they talked about the fundamentals of weight loss over and over again people would tune out. People want a quick miracle solution to their weight problem and the show gives them exactly what they want (even if it doesn't work).

It's television, a vast wasteland of false information.

Uuuugh, I have some very knowledgeable friends who are educated in Nutrition and work in the wellness department of a natural food store, and they seriously have to watch Dr. Oz even though he's a phony just to keep up with the demand he produces in people with too much time and money on their hands. One of my other friends is the customer service manager, and he can practically sense a disturbance in the force every time Dr. Oz changes his mind about whether or not it's ok to buy non-organic berries/milk/meat/etc. He's a money maker! I know some doctors legitimately want to help, but while most are in the pocket of big pharma, Dr. Oz is in the pocket of every freaking trendy health craze.

Because there's no real money in that?

He is paid very very very well to tout all these miracle cures. I think he's a snake oil salesman but soooo many people live by his teachings its ridiculous. my co-workers watch him and OMG a couple weeks ago they came in talking about his latest miracle the SWISS CHEESE DIET!!!! it was all I could do not to laugh. apparently you can lose BELLY FAT!! by eating a piece of swiss cheese before each meal. specifically must be swiss cheese. because there's magic in there. or something. so of course for about a week they all brought in their swiss cheese cubes to eat before lunch. Such a shocker that they didnt all lose their belly fat in the week they stuck to it. Then they ask me what my secret is and I tell them "workout, eat clean, dont starve myself, don't binge eat & drink and remember the turtle won the race" and they all talk about how I'm one of the lucky ones that that works for me and of course that wouldn't work for them.

    He's a sellout.

I understand that's all about ratings and marketing for television, but there's a difference in quality TV and right out lying to people and/or skewing the facts. It's a shame he reaches so many viewers who actually believe his nonsense, because, afterall, he's a doctor.

I think he's forgotten that he's a doctor and supposed to be advocating health.

Because how would he make any money with that. It would be pretty hard to keep having people tune in and he wouldn't have a show. He's a celebrity, no longer a doctor. I'm sure he started with good intentions, but really, once the networks and producers and marketeers get a hold of you, they're pretty much going to dictate what you do/sell and whether you still have a job or not. Apparently for the good doctor, celebrity and being famous is more important than actually helping people.

While I agree that Dr. Oz is over the top, green tea does help with your diet. Look up its properties on the web. In my experience, it assists with losing weight. Go figure!!!

Every time Oz sells something new, my elderly customers run to my store (Walgreens) and demand the new product that we don't have. Of course, they don't know what the product is called, or who makes it, and most of the time they're fuzzy on what it does or how it works, which makes it impossible to order from other stores. And then they whine about "Dr. Oz said you carry it! Dr. Oz says I can buy it from Walgreenses! We must haves it! The preciousssss!"
By the next week that product is forgotten and they're asking for something new and inane. One time I got a lady who NEEDED a vitamin C cream. I asked her what it was for- basic moisturizer, fine line eraser, dark spot remover? What? And she DIDN"T KNOW. She didn't know what it was called, or what it even looked like. Dr. Oz's viewership is worse than small children in the toy aisle. At least a kid knows the name of the Disney character they absolutely must have in their toy collection.
