A healthier alternative to soy sauce?

Yes yes, I know, it's as healthy or unhealthy as you make it. I'm actually asking if there is something else you find that tastes better on your veggies over rice. Just curious:D Thanks.

  • I use Braggs Liquid Aminos. Tastes pretty much like soy sauce, though, less sodium.

I use Braggs Liquid Aminos. Tastes pretty much like soy sauce, though, less sodium.

Braggs Liquid Aminos has 640 mg of sodium per tablespoon versus 575 mg in a tablespoon of Kikkoman Low Sodium Soy Sauce.

One of my favorites is Louisiana Hot Sauce, if it's in your area. It has 480 mg per tablespoon, but you wouldn't need that much. Mix a teaspoon (240 mg) with a teaspoon of your favorite salad oil (olive, coconut, whatever you use) and mix it in. You can also just go with a regular vinegar and oil. The acid will distract from the lack of sodium.

Coconut aminos 113 mg sodium /tsp. It's pricey though. I think I paid 5.99 for an 8 oz bottle.

Here's a link for vegetarian fish sauce (not soy sauce)
It has a lot of great stuff in it, yes, a 1/2 cup of soy sauce
but when you put in all the other stuff it really cuts it down the sodium AND adds some of the soy sauce flavor with a bit more kick.

    See if you like that.

Additionally ... If I want to add soy sauce I use the light soy sauce (even in my sushi) but for other uses I add it to grape seed oil and a infused vinegar. (love the little shop that has a ton of infused vinegars, olive oil and salts.)

I've heard great things about coconut aminos. I went to try them for myself, only to find the shelf completely emptied. So, I guess it's pretty good!
  • Could you eat Coconut aminos with Sushi? Yesterday I (without thinking) had about 4oz of regular soy sauce with my 12pc sushi. I love soy sauce and I need an alternative asap!   :noway: :ohwell:
