The New HDTS Diet!!

Okay, now that I got your attention. I'm really here to vent and whine since I'm having such a hard time this week. I now know the solution to my problems and have developed a new diet - The HDTS Diet. First, I need someone to (H)andcuff my hands behind my back, then (D)uck(T)ape my mouth making a little hole with just enough room for a (S)traw. Yep, that should do it!
I am having such a hard time staying away from sweets! It seems I must have some not just everyday, but a couple time a day. If you check My Diary, even though I am not always going over my limits, the diaries are riddled with servings of licorice, red hot candies, chocolate, ice cream, twix bars, snickers, jelly beans, and on and on. I want to eat healthy but am fighing a sugar demon. I know sugar feeds sugar and I just have to go through the cravings and withdrawals to start to break the cycle, but MANNNNN is it hard.
I guess I have to look at the whole picture and realize that I am eating more fruits, vegetables, and grains than ever before. If I can just convince myself that edamame beans are a better tasting snack than a Reeses cup, I'll be all good!

Evolution has pretty much ensured that our bodies crave sweet things on a cellular level. Sugar is an energy source that, while we were living in the wild or didn't have a whole lot of access, that is pretty fantastic. Sugar is always going to be something our bodies want. The cravings are our mentalities and habits and fighting those is psychology.
Try weaning yourself off. Cold turkey may just be too much to expect from yourself. Calculate how many calories of sweets you consume and cut it down by 50 cals per day or so.0 -
Oh boy do I ever sympathize with you!!!! I added an extra half hour to my exercise tonight just so I could eat a candy bar with lunch. I'm like the worst dieter EVER. I like your new diet idea, lol, it's just what I need too!
I am working on portion control and limiting my sweets to lower calorie ones. When I need chocolate, I try to go for a sugar free pudding cup. When I want ice cream, I go for a pudding pop (60 calories per!) and if I just have to have candy, I try to limit it to 5 or 6 m&ms. I still haven't been able to cut out my sodas, which is very frustrating...I could free up 450 calories per day if I'd just not drink a soda with my meals!0 -
I love your new diet.....
Sugar is actually my weakness. I am an all or nothing kind of person. So 11 days ago I said not desserts or soda until vacation on Oct 21st. The first couple days were hard, but I haven't really miss the soda. I had dessert 1 day and the next day I craved salt and sweets really bad. So for me I just have to say no. I know you can stay away from them. Sometimes I make a bet with someone where if I give in I have to pay money. This makes me think twice before grabbing that reeses or diet coke.
Just set a goal with a reasonable reward. Get someone to hold you accountable and do it. I know you can! Good Luck!

Try finding fruit that is sweet. I like dried fruit even though it has more calories and sugar it takes away the sweet tooth. Plus you are eating fruit. I have a lot of trouble too, I eat a sweet every single day. It takes alot for me not to and when i dont, I eat the entire kitchen so I am better off giving in to a mini twix or mini snickers then eating the entire kitchen. I allow myself 2-3 minis a day and then thats it. My dessert at night if I feel the need is fresh fruit with a drizzle of hersheys syrup. Little things like this really curb the sweet tooth. This also means your not "quiting" cold turkey. sugar to a sweet tooth is like alcohol to an alcoholic. Your addicted and you need to wean yourself off and try better alternatives!!! In time you will talk yourself out of eating all of that and then after a while, you wont even want it...
Just remember not to deprive yourself or get too angry, just be strict with your servings and the amount of time you eat sweets a day!0
