heart rate: polar vs life fitness calorie burn

Polar says 231, the treadmill says 186. Both reading from my chest strap.

What type of info do you plug into the treadmill?

Height, weight, age, gender, exertion level, and more, are factors in calorie burns. Your Polar should have all that info.....the treadmill (if it's reading your chest strap).....might be missing a piece of information or 2.

I'm thinking the Polar is more accurate.

Go with the HRM.....apparently treadmill default to a man weighing 70kg.
My 30 min run today showed 374 on treadmill and 454 on HRM.....
Also the HRM will be set to your individual height, weight and heart rate

The treadmill has my weight, but not my height or sex (which the polar does). My entire workout (I'm including walking from the gym to the supermarket, about 45 mins brisk walk) and the final burn on my polar was 800, which I was amazed at. There was no rest time included, I was walking briskly, running or lifting weights for about 1 hour 45.

HRM is not appropriate for guesstimating burn on any of those activities. I would cut whatever number you're getting by two-thirds.
