Tips for when you are sick with a bad cold/sinus infection

Any tips for staying on your health plan while sick? I'm going to keep track of calories but should I try to exercise lightly or just go to bed? Stuffy nose is keeping me from breathing fully.

  • Generally, for people who like to run, they cite an "above the neck" and "below the neck" guideline. Above the neck, it is usually ok to work out. Below the neck, it is better to rest and recuperate.

That said, my personal experience has been that I will usually end up 50/50 on whether I exercise or not when I'm feeling uncomfortable symptoms. Today, in fact, is day three of stomach cramping and it is looking like a virus so, while it was tough to stay away from a run, I really don't want to be in pain while exercising. As glorious as the hero's tale who fights through adversity to win the championship/get the girl/be an all-American is, the reality is much more personal.

Also, even when I reach my goal weight, I'm finding that I want to continue this awareness of what I eat. So if conscious eating and exercise are to be a long-term practice, I want compassion for myself and my aches and pains to be an element of that practice. Hope you feel better!
