Too much restriction during Super Bowl!

I made sure to stay in my calorie limits yesterday at our potluck party last night and restricted myself so much I didn't allow myself to enjoy the food. I nibbled and stopped myself from finishing anything and was even UNDER my goal. Now I'm ravenous today and all I want to do is eat a whole bag of Ruffles. HELP!
It's so hard sometimes to stop myself! I have to remember how hard it is to burn off these extra calories.

I hear ya! Couple suggestions- DRINK AN ENTIRE JUG OF ICE COLD WATER.... ok maybe not a whole jug. that's just ridiculous. But, really. Drink a lot of water. Then maybe do some sit-ups or something. If that still doesn't do the trick - substitute. When I need a salt fix, these are great.

And they aren't fried and bad for you. I eat them with maybe some fruit or a "string of cheese"0 -
If you are really struggling with hunger, your calorie goal may not be appropriate. How much are you trying to lose and what kind of deficit are you running?0

In the future for occasions like this where you know you will want to splurge, you could try looking at your weekly net rather than your daily. I was over by ~600 calories yesterday, eating wings, nachos, mini pizzas and drinking beer but was still under my weekly goal. I made sure most of the other days this week were under so I would bank some extra calories.
The sodium killed me though - I could barely get my rings off last night and I was up a couple of pounds on the scale today but I am confident it is water retention and that will normalize in a couple of days.
Super Bowl is my favorite eating day of the year - better than Thanksgiving and Christmas in my opinion!!!0 -

I don't think it's "real" hunger. I've always had a problem where I'll want to binge after I tell myself I am not ALLOWED to eat something. I didn't allow myself to enjoy some of my favs yesterday so today I "overcompensate," for lack of a better word.
I've set my goals to 400 calorie deficit/day wanting to lose 20 pounds and I'm eating back 75% of my workout calories.
Honestly, I miss the comfort eating a whole family size of ruffles gave me but it was only for that 20 minutes. I have to remember how crappy it makes me feel afterwards0 -
shoulda just eaten as much as you wanted and moved on with your life.
i had a ~4,000cal day on saturday and enjoyed every bit with no regrets.
next time, give that a shot. :flowerforyou:0 -

That sounds about right. Just remember to drop to a 250 daily deficit when you get to within 10 lbs of your goal. How much protein are you getting?0 -
N00b question, but why should I drop to 250 cal deficit when I'm within 10 pounds of my goal weight?
I usually take in 15-20% protein/day but I'm also always over on fat % goal0 -

The less you have to lose, the slower you should go to minimize lean body mass loss. Also, you aren't getting very much protein. Up it to 30% or 1g/lb lean body mass. That will help with hunger and minimize lean mass loss as well.0 -
Thanks so much for all of your help and support, everyone. It really helped me to NOT binge. I'm pretty sure after my light dinner, I'll be able to stay within my calorie limit. NSV! Thanks again!0

wow, I'm impressed with your will power! I totally fell off the wagon for the WHOLE weekend, when in fact I should have been strict on Fri and Saturday knowing full well I have no will power and will eat during the superbowl parties. I ate and ate, even had two sodas, and a sugary alcoholic drink. Today I felt so bloated and scale is up quite a bit - which I'm sure is not only all the food I ate but some retention from all the extra sodium and sugar. Blech.0

Just like others said, just don't feel guilty and move on. You probably had a much better time than me!!! I was so worried about my calorie count instead of just having fun with friends. Next time, I will prepare better and let myself have a day to eat party food
Hope you feel better today!0
