Which Should You Do First

When you working out which should come first Weights then Cardio or... Cardio then Weights??

Replies

  • A 10 - 15 minute cardio warmup, followed by weights, then your proper cardio.

The theory being that your body should ideally be fresh and co-ordinated when throwing metal about. You run the risk of injury from bad form if you have a fatigued body from doing your cardio first!

I do my cardio first. It warms me up and gets me ready to lift. But I am just starting a 12 week lifting program and it does not include any cardio at first :(. But I am really wanting to transform my body

Having done both, I now do my lifting first, more energy=more power=better workout IMO.

When I had a personal trainer back in the day they always made me do a cardio warm up (no more than 20 minutes) and then strength and then more cardio.

    Edit: To read better.

I agree with the short cardio warm up followed by weights. I split my workouts so that I don't focus on cardio & weights in the same workout, might be the same day but in separate sessions. So I might run in the morning and then in the evening hit the gym for my weight workout.

lifting first. I want all my energy for lifting. I actually don't usually do cardio but on the rare occasion that I do, I do it after.

Cardio to warm up first then weights. Need to get that blood pumping to those muscles before asking them to work!
