How to get use to the taste of avocados

Hi
I've never tried to eat avocados until very recently. The first time I tried it was in a guacamole. I did not really like it. Then it was in a sub at subway. It tasted awful IMO. Then I tried it again in a salad. I'm just not able to appreciate the taste. I don't know what it is but I really want to get use to it because I know it is such a great source of healthy fats and nutrients.
Any ideas?
And also, how can I save a part of an avocado for the next day without it turning brown...
Thanks

I already like avacados in all those ways so I am not sure about recipes to make it any better for you. The best way to store it is to make sure no air is touching the inside, so wrap it up tight in a plastic bag or plastic wrap and make sure the plastic is snugly covering any of the insides of it. They do not keep very long once they are cut open unfortunately......0

Keep the seed in the leftover avocado. This works!0

I love avacados but honestly dont think they have alot of taste. You can try to put some lemon juice on them . I can eat them in any way on anything.
To keep them from browning fast , as soon as you cut it, wrap the unused part tightly in saran wrap and leave the pit IN.0 -
Eat something else that you enjoy the taste of rather than trying to make yourself enjoy something that you obviously don't.0
-
you don't. you can't make yourself *like* avocados. I, personally, despise avocados and their bi-products in every way, shape, and form. like, I'd rather gouge my eye out with a dull, rusty butterknife than force myself to eat an avocado.
just. sayin'.

Lots of lemon or lime juice, and also a bit of salt. Even if you are going to add it in a sandwich, salad etc with other dressing, still add some lemon/lime juice first, it changes the taste completely.0

There are other healthy sources of fat and nutrients. If you don't like it, choose something else.0

mash up the avacado with a pinch of salt, and add fresh prawns to it! ( i used to hate both) then i tried this dish and wow, i was amazed and loved it. my husband made it for me.0

There's not anything you can get from them that you can't get somewhere else. I generally don't like them but have gotten used to them as a light spread on sandwiches rather than butter, or on burgers (again spread, no chunks).0

Yes, this.
I love avocado's so I don't try to mask the flavor. If you don't like them then don't eat them. Like others said I guess there are other ways to get the same nutrients.
What I do is take a bowl of kale and an avocado and just mush the avocado in the Kale, lathering each leaf with smushed avocado :-) I add whatever else I want and noticed I can't really taste the avocado. It's like a "salad dressing" texture to the Kale.0 -

I use a avocado in my smoothie every day. It makes it creamy and smooth but my smoothie is all greens.0

You get used to the fact that you don't like it and eat something else that you do enjoy.0
-
Maybe don't eat it?0

I like to mash it up and add a lot of salsa or tomatoes or add a chopped hard boiled egg season it with dill or parsley.
Leave the pit in and sprinkle a bit of lemon juice store in a ziploc bag0 -
Why are you trying to make yourself like them? There are other healthy things to eat.
But I assume it's the same as any other "acquired" taste.. just keep eating them.
I love guacamole though. Always have. I don't make it often because it's a pain in the butt. I make it and it's all brown the next day. You have to just make a little bit at a time, but with chopping the onions, tomatoes, lime, cilantro, it's kind of lame. But it's sooo good0 -
I don't dislike them but not a fan - I also know they have lots of good nutrients - one of my workfriends removes the pit and cracks an egg into it and bakes - worth a try because I love eggs :flowerforyou:0

True! Keep the half with the seed in it. Also sprinkle some lemon juice on it. I love avocados plain with just some salt, pepper and lemon.....so good! I have tried to make it with the egg in it, but it didn't turn out too well....0 -
If you don't like em.....don't eat em.0

Lime, coriander (Cilantro) and chilli. I'm not a huge fan of them, but with those three things, they are amazing.0

I have seen some recipes that sub avacado for butter, etc. in baked goods...sounds a bit weird I know but as they don't have a ton of flavor but do have a rich creamy texture I think it works. If you are really trying to get them into your diet for some reason (I know they are a super food) this might be a way to do it for you. If not, don't worry about it and take the advice of the others to eat something you do like! There are other super foods out there.0

Not yet, not yet, not yet, not yet, NOW, too late.

Step 1. Buy avocado.
Step 2. Slice all around the middle and split open
Step 3. Remove seed
Step 4. Throw it out of the window if you don't actually like avocados.0 -
Sprinkling them with a little sea salt makes ALL the difference for me. It really brings out the flavor. Otherwise, avocados just taste like a pile of mush. I love them when properly ripe and with salt, though. If they are not the right level of ripeness, they can taste like soap to me.
I definitely acquired the taste for avocado when I started to enjoy guacamole. I hate it when it's mashed into a pile of goo, but when they are chopped of pieces of partly smashed avocado, especially when mixed with some pico de gallo alongside some Mexican rice, that's when avocado is at its best!0 -
Avocados are one of those things that you either like or you don't I think.
I enjoy it cut in half with the "cup" filled with a tart vinegar based dressing like coleslaw dressing. Eat with a spoon and make sure that every bite has a bit of the sauce. (Not all guacamole is created equal! Some are downright nasty. So maybe find another recipe and try again.)0 -
Avocado ice cream is to die for.
Once upon a time, I despised avocados. Don't even try to push guacamole over on me. Tried it - hated it. Then one day at a restaurant in the middle of nowhere, I tried this guacamole, literally on a dare from my wife, and it tasted like nothing I'd ever had before. Turns out, homemade guac tastes so much better than the pre-made garbage. I was hooked. Eventually I grew to like avocados on pretty much anything. Now, home made guac is a family staple. But I still can't stand the pre-made stuff.
I don't know, maybe you just haven't liked the stuff you've already tried? Has it all been pre-made? Have you used fresh avocados? If you've worked with the fresh avocados and you still don't like them, there probably isn't much you can do about it. If you don't like something you simply don't like something, and that's Life. We could probably share a million recipes with you, and in the end they'd all still taste like avocados. Drat!
Oh well. Good luck figuring it all out.0 -

Avocados, you either hate them or love them. There is no inbetween. I love love them. Anyone looking at my diary can see that! LOL. But, don't force yourself if you don't enjoy it. You can get the same nutrients somewhere else.
Can I have the rest of that avocado?0 -
I'm with the "if you don't like it don't eat it" group. Personally I like avocado's in almost any form as long as they are fully ripe. OTOH I can't stand olives and will not eat them regardless of how they are hidden (including pizza when I used to eat pizza). My wife, however, loves olives but can't stand mushrooms. Don't try to force yourself to eat something "just because".0
