IBS/Protein powders

Hi guys,

I am looking at taking a low cal protein powder as a drink for after the gym/as a snack between meals on gym days, and I would like to know if any of you guys have IBS and if you have any particular protein powders which don't set off your IBS. I just don't want to get excessive gas, bloat up or feel sick from it, as I know that even people without IBS can get these symptoms!! Are there any available in the UK which won't give me these symptoms, or is it going to be a trial and error?

thanks in advance

slowly losing....

There are two protein powders that i have tried so far that don't make me want to die: Syntrax Nectar whey isolate and Metabolic Nutrition Protizyme, which has digestive enzymes already in its formula. I am going to test out Optimum Nutrition Natural Whey soon, but haven't gotten around to it yet. The ON Whey has no artificial sweeteners (just evaporated cane juice) so I am thinking it will be okay.

I would suggest starting off slowly with any protein that you choose, though, and work your way up to a full scoop over the course of a week or two. Too much of any macro in one sitting will give anyone a belly ache! Also, along with these protein powders, I suggest investing in a good digestive enzyme and probiotic, if you don't take either of these already. Good luck :)

MY SIL has IBS and either uses the Aria Whey protein powder or Shakeology.

I have IBS. As long as it is sweetened with either sugar or stevia, it seems to not bother me. Right now I am using Gold Standard - 100% Whey Gold Natural Vanilla. It is sweetened with sugar.

Just remember that works for one person with IBS might not work for another. I don't have IBS, but I do have IBD, the only powder I've used without issue is Vega.

I have IBS and have tried a couple that have been fine - I'm currently using the My Protein Impact Whey Isolate (unflavoured). I mix it with almond milk and for flavour I add a bit of instant coffee mixed in a tiny bit of hot water. I have also used the Optimum nutrition gold standard 100% whey (I had that in chocolate) which was fine as well. My first attempt at using a shake was with the Maxitone Definity which was a disaster.
