    Always rest your body.

The change to your body happens at rest, not when you are training in the gym. Rest days are crucial to not only progress but to good health too. Training every day takes its toll on your body over time which will lead to injury.

It depends on what you do. Some activities can be done daily without rest ( think yoga for exemble, again it depends on the intensity)

However if you are into more rigorous activities, rest is important.

To answer your question as written, what is best for weight loss is a calorie deficit. Physical activities have little to do with weight loss per say except for making your body look better and creating a deficit. Wether you rest or not will only impact your calorie goal as far as weight loss goes. Mind you resting is important for recovery, you don't want to injure yourself.

weight loss comes from a calorie deficit.

so table push aways and fork put downs- and even then you need a break from that- extreme extended calorie deficits can dump your metabolism- so you shouldn't be doing that for months and months and months- into years on end.

    Moderation in everything.

as far as workouts- most work outs should incorporate a rest day- but if you are talking about walking in the park- or dog walking- no- you don't need a rest. You'll be fine.

Rest days are important. However, a rest day doesn't have to equal sitting on the couch binging on Netflix (it can, but doesn't have to). You can have active rest where you go for a leisurely walk or a causal bike ride. High mileage runners will have recovery runs for rest where they do a pace much slower than normal for only a few miles.
  • Rest days don't mean you have to do nothing.... Stretching, for example, is a perfect rest day activity.

I rest on Sunday and sometimes on Wednesday- active the other 5-6 days. I try to alternate cardio, stretching (yoga) and lifting. The only exceptions are Friday/Saturday in which I often do back to back days of c25k training and Monday in which I do both my running and yoga.

I am working to make sure I am eating enough though-- you will NEVER see me eating in the 1200-1500 range, and I look for signs of overtraining. If I have to skip a planned workout, I will. My physical and mental health are important for the long term.
