Hi all...so here I am at home suffering from sciatica pain that led me to the emergency room yesterday. This was probably from overdoing it at the gym.I feel so defeated I can barely walk or lay in bed without being in pain.I can only sit upright in a chair which is my only relief..I am trying my best not to give in and start eating its hard when you are unable to do anything else than just sit.I stopped logging because I am so frustrated.Thought I'd reach out to you guys for encouragement and also to distract myself from crawling to the kitchen.

I definitely understand! Sometimes when you're in an emotional situation it's really hard not to turn to food. Try drinking something, or doing something to distract your mind like reading a book or watching TV. You got this!

Order some lacrosse balls, you can work the muscle that is tightening and causing your nerve to get irritated. You can do this laying or sitting very easily. I would also suggest icing it pretty regularly.
  • That stinks but kudos to you for reaching out.
Can you write down a list of reasons why you want to lose weight?
I find that reading that list halts my binge eating.

    You can do it!

I have really bad sciatica. The ONLY thing that helps is backwards yoga positions. Daily. Google them
  • Icing and heat (alternating), take 3 Motrin, 1 Tylenol if you can take those meds and you don't have any painkillers (it's a cocktail learned from a physical therapist and I wouldn't recommend it often but it does work, even on arthritic knees), keep water close, log just to see what the damage is (sometimes seeing what my choices are doing keep me on the straight and narrow when my body has a problem that sidetracks me, sometimes not). Since it's emotional eating (I'd feel the same way), if you put yourself through the pain of getting something, then try to find something that you can snack on that isn't high calorie, or high fat, so that you can mindlessly chew on it. This is where the dreaded celery sticks could come in if you've been a yo-yo dieter like me.

I also like the list of what you hope to accomplish by losing weight (or reasons you are losing weight). That type list might motivate me to power through the current pain and desire to just "throw it all away" due to all the conflicting emotions.

Reaching out was a great step. We all believe you can overcome, despite how you're feeling now.

I am sorry you are in pain! I have recently also injured myself, although not as painfuly and I can relate.

Just hang in there and don't give in. this will pass and you will be back on track

I"m 16 months out from a herinating a disk in my back. It hurts, let it heal, then get back into the game.

This can just be a bump in the road, don't let it become a road block.
