Hi my name is Claire, i need to lose 8 stone (already lost 3 on weight watchers). I started MFP last week thinking counting calories would boost my loss. I like weight watchers, i mean it has helped me lose 3 stone, but with ww you get 0 point foods and can eat as much as you like and even if its fruit and veg you can net 250 calories without ''knowing'' your eating it because you think its free. I log every last thing that enters my mouth so know what i'm eating.
I'm 34, 5f 7'' and weigh 19stone 1lb, MFP gives me 2140 calories a day, i exercise everyday. I go to the gym 5x a week as well as a lot of walking and can burn (although i know this is not totally accurate going from mfp and machines at the gym) 800 calories on some days. I use between 1600 and 1800 calories most days leaving me with 400 calories left from my goal plus what ever i earn back in exercise. Does this sound ok? i don't really understand a lot about weight loss.

Here's a wonderful link to get you started. It seems overwhelming at first, but once you stick to it and get a rhythm it becomes habit and second nature. Good luck to you! :flowerforyou: Congratz on your loss so far!

My best advice.......start where you're at. See how things progress after a couple weeks. If you start to feel run down, or you are losing faster than you expect....up your calories. If you are not losing anything .....lower your calories. You are looking at the right things.

There are so many factors to get right (or wrong).......activity level, food portions, etc.

Calorie burns from exercise ...........calculations are difficult at best. A heart rate monitor is useful for steady state cardio....and MFP & machines "guesstimates" tend to be generous. 800 calories for you could be right or wrong.....although walking is notoriously off. Many people start with 60% of their exercise calories....and go from there.

If you want a "second opinion".....look up your TDEE (this includes exercise) and BMR (no activity at all)
