Where were you 9 years ago today?
I am extremely fortunate to have not lost any loved ones to the attacks on September 11th, but will never forget that day. I worked in Washington DC. Because of my employer's location, we were not evacuated and stayed until the end of the work day. I drove home from work through a desolated downtown DC at rush hour. I had never seen the city empty. Just me and military personell who had to divert me through several detours so I could find my way home. I should note that I had just moved to the area in July, so I hadn't tried any alternate routes to get home yet. My usual route went past every major monument and government building in town.
The next day, everyone returned to work and smoke could still be seen coming from the Pentagon. My heart goes out to those (and their friends and family) who lost their lives. Trade Center, Pentagon, Flight 93

I was in a school lab, and remember seeing a television on, and saw what was happening, and in shock thinking
are the students playing a movie they produced? I didnt grasp what was happening, it was so surreal, and when I asked a few of em, they hardly said 2 words, they were in shock like everybody else.........they let school at that day, and Ive never forgot it......Lloyd0 -
I was waking up making my birthday breakfast preparing for a calm morning on the couch with just myself and the remote. It was my 16th.0

I was at home and my Mother called in tears to tell me to turn on the TV, we had been attacked.0

I was sitting in my 7th grade, 1st period geography class. All of a sudden a bunch of other teachers came in and our teacher left with them, so we talked and goofed off...then, a few minutes later he came back in and turned on the tv. We watched it in shock and horror, but obviously, at such a young age, I don't really think any of us truly understood what was taking place...however, I will never forget that day.
...Praying for anyone out there that lost a loved one that day...0 -
Wow. Thinking back, it feels like yesterday. I had just arrived at work and a co-worker was watching the news and she told me to come in and watch it. I got there just in time to see the 2nd plane hit the tower and my stomach just sank. We were glued to the TV all day.
I am from Oklahoma and I could just imagine how the people there felt, because I remember when the OK bombing happened, and being scared and calling around to friends and family to make sure everyone was OK, and also just being afraid to go anywhere because you didn't know if it was a single incident or if there would be more. I remember the quietness too. You could go outside and it would just be eerily quiet everywhere.0 -
I will never forget. I was woke up by my best friend calling. She told me the first tower was hit, I turned on the news and watched in shock and horror like the rest of the country. I spent the rest of the morning on the phone with her, my dad and prayed like I have never prayed before. I cried for those dying, for the families, for the rescewers and for our country. My family went to church that night along with most of my community in Iowa. To many people have forgotten. We all need to pray for our country and our freedom and thank our soldiers for their sacrifices.

I was active duty Air Force at my base in NJ, just a stone's throw from NYC. A co-worker came into our office and said a plane had hit the Trade Center. We all thought it must be some idiot private pilot in a puddle-jumper not paying attention. Not long after, we realized that wasn't the case. We all crammed into our comander's office (he had the only cable TV in our office) and watched in stony silence as the second plane hit the towers.
I remember we all looked around at each other and realized that, as military members, our lives were about to change forever. We were right. My brother (also active duty miitary) was in DC that morning for a medical appointment, and I remember not being able to reach him on his cell phone. The lines were all completely jammed and no one could get service. I was in a bit of a panic until I finally reached my sister-in-law in Baltimore who told me he was OK and headed home.
They closed the base and sent all non-essential personnel home. I curled up on the couch and watched the news all day. I alternated between tears and rage, and I still do. As a warrior, it's frustrating to see friends die and not be able to do much about it. Unfortunately, this wasn't the first time I'd lost friends in a terrorist attack, and it wouldn't be the last.0 -
I was on my way to nursing school, in the car listening to the radio when the news broke. I remember thinking "what idiot pilot cant see a tower like that " The thought never crossed my mind that we were under attack. Now If anything happens my first reaction is "are we under attack"
I went to school and by the time I reached my class the 2nd plane hit. And we knew this was real evil and we would never think the same again. Every single one of the students and teachers were praying and crying. I remember the groc. stores and gas stations immediately started price gouging and some gas stations had gas for 6.99 a gal. from 1.25 -1.50 at that time.0 -
I was getting ready for work and watched everything unfold on tv, including watching the second plane fly into the tower. I had news that morning that my father was in intensive care in Holland and gravely ill. But I could not leave to be with him, because all planes were ordered to land. And nothing was flying. It was an astonishing day. My father survived, but so many in America did not.
I will always remember 9/11.0
