I've never done any type of lifting or strength training before but from studying the boards and doing some research of my own I really need to incorporate this into my routine. I have about 100 lbs to lose and I don't have access to the gym. I enjoy workout videos are there any that I should try? I just purchased 30 day shred- is this a good start for strength training? I'm at a loss here! It all seems so intimidating.

The 30 day shred will build your endurance and a bit of muscle while you research other approaches. Rather than trying to do it every day, take a few breaks, at least one day a week, but even just doing it every other day will have benefits.

Since you don't belong to a gym, I suggest body weight exercises. Fitness Blender has a couple of workouts, and the guy who wrote "You are your own gym" has another book "Body by You" that has smaller progressions - every change makes a huge difference when you are dealing with an extra 100 lbs! I speak from experience. I even just purchased TRX type straps to expand my bodyweight options.
