Pear shape and ellipticals?

I've read a few articles that if you have a pear shape using a elliptical is a bad machine to use. Whoever wrote the article may not know much about anatomy but could be true. I've lost no weight using elliptical and that was using it 3-4 days a week. Has anyone else with in unshapely thighs and wide hips ever have any success stories with the elliptical.

    Doesn't make any sense to me but I'd be curious to hear their reasoning behind it (so I can laugh at it).
