Does anyone fast?

I have a friend doing a fasting diet, because she says she simply CANNOT and will not count calories as it is too inconvenient and time consuming for her life. Basically 2 days a week she can only eat 500 calories, and then eats normally the other days of the week. (This is not working for her since the 'eating normally' is based on a 2000 calorie diet, not just eating whatever you want.) Anyway the appeal of this is that you only really have to 'diet' 2 days a week. Plus, you read all this press about all the benefits fasting has for your health, your metabolism, flushing toxins blah blah. I can't believe it can be that good for you but I'm no expert. Does anybody do anything like this?
