I was on a winning streak, but then my birthday happened....

I had had a winning streak of super low calories while still being super happy with what I was eating and doing, and I was starting to think that this would be no challenge what so ever, how I would suprise everyone with my weight loss etc.
But then, ugh, yesterday, I ate the most calories I have since I started on MFP (since late December), and I feel really rubbish about it... My friends were taking me out to a sushi buffet for my birthday, and even though I didn't eat anything else besides a normal breakfast (at 6am - I had early classes, and no way I could go to 1pm without a thing!), I still went massively over my goal - so much sushi! (we were at the buffet for over 5 hours, and we really got our money's worth!)
And now I sort of feel like my low cal days were worthless, and feel bad about throwing my plan out the window just for a moments indulgence. And then I feel rubbish about being negative about my birthday! Ugh!
Today I'm sort of continuing my birthday celebrations - I've hosted a brunch, and I'm going to my parents' for dinner - I kept my brunch intake to a moderate level (I had baked really fibery low fat bread, made sugar-free skim milk hot chocolate, and sugar free jam, and a side of fruit so really it was only a slice of cheese and a bit of omelet that was on my bad list (I had made bacon and juice and all the other brunch stuff too for the guest, don't worry :b)), but I'm sure my parents will make something with lots of calories for me (they are ultimate foodies - so it's always super excotic and healthy, but there are still many high-cal foods involved - like avocado, foie gras, nuts etc. etc) plus I know my mom has made cake - and as I saw a post just before, with most cakes, even a tiny slice will eat up so many of you calories!
So I'm kind of bummed that my birthday is sort of ruining my plans here! Will have to be strict in the weekend!

Special occasions happen and you over ate, it happens, and what you should be happy with is, that you were eating very healthy before that day and were very satisfied with what you were eating. That is huge for the staying power on long time change in your eating habits. Don't be so upset about your birthday splurges. tomorrow is a new day and you can get back on your regular schedule. Even though your parents are making a special meal, have a little of what they made for you a more of what you brought or know what is healthier to have. Really the fact that you were doing so great and were satisfied with your food is huge. Good luck with tomorrow and don't let it get you off track.0

Don't feel that way! Weight loss is a journey. There will be ups and downs along the way. Treat every day as a new start. Who cares if you went over on your birthday?!? Hello, it was your birthday! This is a new day. Stay within your calories and move on. Trust me, you will have more days like that one. It's OK to slip up. It won't ruin anything you've already done. In fact, if we're only talking about a day, it shouldn't have any effect at all.
And, happy birthday!0 -
Hey, it's your birthday. You SHOULD let loose and enjoy yourself. Sounds like you are really committed to making good choices. You won't harm your progress.0

It's a scientific fact that calories eaten on your birthday don't count. Enjoy. Happy Birthday!!!:flowerforyou:0

Two days of indulgence in a lifetime of healthy eating seem reasonable. Beating yourself up because you're not perfect is counterproductive, let it go and move on.
And, btw, it's a scientific fact that birthday cake has 0 calories, carbs or fat, so it doesn't count.
Happy birthday!

This made me chuckle :b
Thanks for the support every one! I guess what brought me down was also the fact that I didn't feel like I was doing something crazy - if I had gorged on fast food and candies, that would have been completely out there - but there I was, feeling like I was indulging a bit, and than bam, it was almost 3 times what my net cals had been the day before! So it just knocked me down how little it actually takes to slip!0
