Eating enough calories

Hi, I've just joined MFP as I'm a serial 'yo-yo' dieter and decided rather than punish myself every few months I would make a complete lifestyle change (especially after quitting smoking 9 months ago and gaining 4 stones!) My problem is this, I'm struggling to eat as many calories as I'm supposed to and often find that I've only consumed around 900 a day. I'm definitely not under calculating and in fact I'm probably over calculating if anything but I am still eating healthily, lots of fresh veg, fruit and low fat yoghurt for example. Obviously MFP tells me off each night as I haven't eaten enough calories and I'm probably still in 'yo-yo' mode where I'm terrified of over eating but how do I make sure that I eat enough calories in the day without reaching for the biscuit tin or chocolate bar just to make it up to my target intake? I'd be really glad of any advice.
Thanks
Ali

This is a common problem, you're not alone.

The general advice is to add more fat to each meal, it doesn't add bulk, but it does add calories.

There are many healthy fats out there, they help regulate hormones and blood pressure.

Olive oil - cook with more

Avocado - add to soup, salad, wraps, ect

Nuts and nutbutters - Replace your lower calorie snacks with PB on toast, or a handful of nuts.

Full Fat - Switch to full fat dairy, yogurt, cheese, milk ect.

    > You should also buy a food scale if you haven't already, just to make sure you aren't eating more than you think. Weigh everything.

Switch to regular full fat yogurt, for one thing.

    Eat the biscuits.

Eat anything you want within your calorie goal once you have filled your Protein, Fat and Carbohydrate macros completely.

Restricting food choices doesn't work. Add in some cheese, nuts, bread with butter, whatever you want.

Thanks for this! I've really got to get my head out of starving myself to lose weight.
