Too many vitamins??

Is there such thing as taking too many different vitamins? I already take a multi vitamin, Omega 3, and vitamin c (Supposedly helps with blood pressure) but thinking of adding vitamin B-2 would that be okay? Or Biotin?

It's difficult to take too much water soluble vitamins (that's your Bs & C). If you have the money, buy a nice B-complex. But take it 12 hours apart from your multi vitamin. B-complex can help with mood and help give you energy by acting as co-enzymes for the foods you eat.

It's possible to overdo B3 and B6, but you have to take way over the amount found in most B-complex pills.

A "B-complex" typically has all of the B vitamins. If you think the foods you eat are lacking in vitamin B (for instance, if you don't eat a lot of fortified cereals, fortified breads, or don't eat a lot of meat or other animal products) taking a B-complex won't hurt you, if you can afford them.

B12 can be taken in abundance. I know this one, because it was the root cause of a disease I have, lol. The only problem is if you had a folate deficiency or malabsorption (and vice versa for taking folate when your B12 is abnormal). Those two can mask problems in each other.

But if you feel great and see your doc regularly, taking a bunch of B vitamins is fine. You pee out what you don't need :D I definitely think they are important to get enough of, so supplements have their place.

BTW, elderly folks should really take high doses of B12, because the ability to absorb/digest it goes down with age. It's a very, very important vitamin to have, but it doesn't take much of it if absorption is good. If it's not, very serious problems can result (up to death). Docs don't always think of that one in diagnosis and testing, unfortunately, so that's why I am pretty vocal about it now!

Many vitamins are given by a proper balanced diet.
