Prediabetic and High Blood Pressure :(

Just had my annual physical and learned that I am prediabetic and I have high blood pressure. I've been told to cut down on my salt and carb intake. I'm a little stunned. I have all the information I need to battle both - but I am depressed. Anyone else dealing with the same battle?

Yeah, I recently found that my cholesterol is quite high, as well as my blood pressure. Going back in three months to see if anything is changed. I'm really trying to eat more fruits and veggies, and I've cut down on salt and cholesterol in my food.

Does your doctor want to put you on meds?

Yes, she put me on meds. 25 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide. Pretty low dose - basically a water pill. I go back in two weeks to get my blood pressure rechecked. Hopefully the small amount of meds help - but I think what's going to help the most is watching my diet. I've been wanting to lose another 15 pounds so I am sure this will help. For now I am cutting carbs, watching my salt intake and just trying to move my body as much as possible. Thanks for sharing!

I have been hypglycemic since I was 7 so "pre-diabetes" is something I have heard for a loooooong time.

I would look into foods and supplements that helps stabilize blood sugar. I have had great results with Gymnema sylvestre
Limit your processed foods and make sure you get plenty of sleep and exercise. That helps me the most.

Just remember your doctor didn't give you a life sentence. He/She gave you the information you need to help you make positve changes in your life.

My husband was in the same situation 3 years ago. We began to eat better and he got into running. He was able to get off all meds and has been very healthy since. Use this as a wake up call and realize you can turn it all around with diet and exercise. Doesn't need to be running either, find something you enjoy and I bet you turn your blues around as well.
