Has anyone ever took a break from their diet/exercise on vacation and lost weight?
my weight loss has stalled. i think it might be from stress (too much going on in my life) as well as over exercising... I went on a running binge around Christmas and increased my mileage a ton over the course of two weeks-- gained four pounds and haven't been able to shake it. i was eating less or around the same during that time period... so i'm wondering if it has to do with cortisal? anyways, i'm going to las vegas for five days in a couple weeks... our hotel does have a nice gym in it... BUT do you think it would be a good idea to just not workout and eat sensibly during that time period and de-stress? Has anyone ever took a break from their diet/exercise on vacation and lost weight? I'm kind of nervous to not work out for the long or count calories per se... BUT I'm willing to try if other people have had success with this type of thing in the past...
Thanks!

Maybe not lost weight, but I went for 2 weeks all inclusive to Cuba for my honeymoon in 2008. I'd lost 42lbs for my wedding and had been going to the gym several times a week, counting calories etc (pre MFP days!).
I didn't go mad and stuff my face, but I had some treats, and also enjoyed several rum and cokes and cocktails
I didn't use the gym there as it didn't appear air conditioned, but I did swim every day, plus going windsurfing a couple of times, kayaking, snorkelling etc.
I weighed myself the day after I got back and had put on one pound. I think that was more likely because we ordered Dominoes when we got back, and I ate a mars bar on the plane back! I lost that pound and more within a few days.
I know Vegas is a different kind of place, and the food is different to in Cuba, but I'm sure you can enjoy yourself without piling on weight. I have been to Vegas, but it was in a July, so not sure how hot it will be when you go, but hopefully you'll be able to swim.0 -
I went to Egypt and lost weight - we stayed all inclusive and the food was pretty healthy! I stuck to 3 meals a day and did not overindulge too much!!! T0

If it is cortisol exercise is less important. You need to rest first, to lower it, before thinking of working your *kitten* off in the gym!
Yes, when I went to Scotland on a holiday I lost about 6 to 7 pounds in 3 weeks. I didn't exercise at all, just went for walks in the hills and visited castles...0 -
My fiance always has one big cheat meal when he finds his loss plateauing, it takes a few days for the sodium bloat (water weight gain) to fall off but it always kick starts his weight loss again. Last time he did it I think he was stuck at 355 for a month, we ate pizza and cinnamon sticks on his birthday and he dropped to 349 within a week.
Personally, the only time I REALLY plateau is when I stop logging my calories, but my metabolism is very slow due to damage done from an eating disorder I had in my teens so I think I just have to be really regimented in my cals in/cals out for anything to work.
I guess what I want to say is this: have fun on your trip, and if you only hit the gym for 30 minutes/watch what you eat three out of five days while you're there, well, you were good on your diet for more than half the time Enjoy yourself, take the opportunity to relax and have fun and come back home ready to get back to it!0 -
I just incorporate exercise into my days there! You know "Hey check out that volcano…I'm gonna hike it." Forget stupid tour buses. Walk the beach instead of tanning for four hours. When I'm relaxing it's all about the little things.
Don't stress yourself. Eat smart. Have a few treats. Just remember that losing weight isn't a race to the finish line, it's a lifestyle change. So take care of your body and mind, the scale will just do what it does.0 -

I agree! Went to Barcelona and walked everywhere, got lost loads but meant we had to walk more. Ate quite a bit and came home with no weight gain or loss! I say take some time to explore and enjoy ur holiday!0 -
I lost around 10 pounds walking around Italy for a month. I literally just walked everyday, even if it meant an hour or two back to my hostel. I think I was on my feet for 10 hours a day on average.0
