Hi Randy. Congratulations on the weight loss and congratulations on making such great progress as a runner. You have plenty of time to train for your first half marathon. Consolidate your 5k progress and build it gradually into longer distances.
Be sure you have the correct running shoes to avoid injury and enjoy your training. There are plenty of good half marathon training plans online.
Please feel free to friend me…I also started from learning to run 5k's and built it up to a full marathon in a year…I have my second marathon coming up in April and hopelessly out of shape for it so I am going to have to ramp it up a bit!
Good luck!0 -
Great job on the weight loss. I really like the half marathon distance (five under my belt) and I started running when I turned 40. Marathonrookie.com has a great beginner plan, but Hal Higdon has some great plans also. Listen to your body, use good warm up and cool down, get fitted for some shoes, and add some MFP friends who have running experience. It really helps to see how people train and even eat during race training. Good luck and enjoy race day.0
