Recovering from being sick, how long until I can work out?

I started being sniffly last Wednesday, had a fever and slept most of the day Thursday, rested but was feeling a bit better Friday, and Today I feel much better except for a huge amount of mucus that is making it hard to breathe (and eat, because it is so disgusting).
I feel a lot better, but even if I feel better, can working out still hurt my recovery or immune system? I'm supposed to run a 5K next weekend and I haven't been able to run in almost a week! The two days before I got sick I stayed late at work...

My trainer told me last year that if you can breathe and you are not throwing up or other bad things than you should be able to work out. Use your own judgement, but don't let the sniffles keep you from your goal.0

If I have a cold or am getting over being sick I make my decision based off of how I feel and I don't workout if I have a fever.0

my Zumba instructor told us, neck up you can still exercise (head cold, sinuses, sore throat). neck down then hold off (flu, stomach bugs).0
