How to start strength training

Hello,

I am looking for direction on where to start strength training at home. I have been doing cardio for the past 6 months and I am learning that strength training is really where its for helping me on my weightloss journey.

What tools do I need? Are there videos that you would recommend?

Thanks for your help!

If you have never done this before, I would recommend at least a few sessions at the gym, with a trainer supervising. So he/she can correct your pose and point out the basic mistakes beginners do, to avoid injuries. Also depending on what you choose, it might be very easy for you to do things wrong and end up not exercising properly. Get someone to show you what to do first, and once you get the basics, it is fairly easy to work out at home, with just e.g. some free weights or rsistance bands.

There is a summary in this group which is great.

Or you can buy the book New Rules of Lifting for Women (NROLFW) or starting strenght (SS)

for equipment you will need a barbell, bench, plates and for safety...a squat rack or cage (but not until later)

SL has a great series on Youtube to watch on how to do the exercises correctly along with the So you think you can XXX.

Lots of people just watch youtube videos instead of going to a gym as not all trainers will be helpful.

If you don't want to go whole hog resistence band and bodyweight are good as well...or dumbells.
