Tomorrow is my official start date.

Just introducing myself! Pretty excited about finally getting back on a program. I used MFP briefly in the past but never really took it on. I am kind of in a force fed situation this weekend but tomorrow I plan on picking up a routine. I just am hoping to get some input/support beforehand. So, here are some stats I spose.

22 y/o Male 210 lbs 5' 9"

The most I ever weighed was 292 (in 2011) and I lost a fair amount of weight, which brought me down to 190 in March 2012. My goal weight is 180 at the moment. I am currently enlisted in the Army National Guard and graduated basic training at 176 lbs, so am looking to get back into that area. I am also currently applying for various police departments. I lost a ton of weight before, but for some reason I am just having trouble sticking to a plan so I figure maybe some camaraderie will help.

I am going to check out the mentor thread and see if I can hook up with someone to get things rolling. If anyone has input before I start that would be great. I have read a lot over the past couple of days, and here are the numbers I have found:

BMR: 1943 cal/day TDEE: 2888 cal/day (Lightly Active) My current employment requires walking 3-4 hours a day, and some running. TDEE -20% (Since I have 30 lbs to lose): 2310 cal/day MFP Cal Goal: 1740 ca/day

I feel like the TDEE -20 number is quite high, and I think I will start with the MFP cal goal. (1750 seems generous, whether net or gross)

So let me know what you guys think, I appreciate it!

Andrew

The difference between TDEE and MFP is that TDEE is already estimating daily calorie burns for exercise, which is why the number seems high. If you're using the MFP approach, you're expected to eat back exercise calories on top of your normal goal (in theory, making the two numbers basically the same).

Your MFP goal seems on the low side. I'm ten years older than you, a few inches taller, weigh just under 190 lbs, and my BMR (base metabolic rate) is higher than that. How many pounds per week do you have it set to lose? If it's two pounds, I'd advise changing it to one. Otherwise, you're going to run into energy issues if you're doing a lot of exercise.
  • Hey, I'm 21 y/o female, looking to start again tomorrow also. I find I lose motivation so I think having a buddy would be pretty helpful. Anyway message me back if you fancy. Good luck :)

Thanks for the replies. When I dropped the 100last lbs in the past I did it on a 1200l calorie diet with daily HIIT. That's why that many calories kind of baffle me. I maintained that for about 8 months before I shipped out, I did not want to go that extreme this time as I know I was pushing it, but still 1700 net seems comfortable and doable.

Im at drill atm so I will send requests and such when im out of the field. Anymore insight would be great. I have yet to decide if I will use a protein/carb shake post workout but looking at prograde.

    Keep the info coming!

    Thanks again,
    Andrew
